Mine Planner

Position Description:

As a member of the Mine Planning team, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Mine Planner and work a residential roster of 4:3, 10 hours shifts. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of technical services staff, underground operations personnel, production geologists, and others.

Requirements of a mine planner will change as they rotate through the engineering department (including ventilation, geotechnical, backfill, drill/blast, scheduling, development planning), based on business needs and the successful candidates professional growth.

Responsibilities:
Proven commitment to workplace safety and demonstrate safety leadership. Produce and issue packages for all stoping activities including production drilling, blasting and backfilling. Create mine plans and schedules required to safely extract the ore. Collect, document, and assess engineering data within the mine, as needed. Ensure safety is first and foremost in all aspects of planning by using applicable standards and guidelines. Provide input for cost initiatives, continuous improvement and mine scheduling. Communicate the mine plan to the mine operations group, providing technical assistance as required. Work collaboratively with mine production and geology departments and assist other functional areas to achieve their objectives, and to ensure safe and efficient mine operations. Provide planning advice, strategies and designs that ensure production and development targets can be safely and efficiently achieved in all mining areas. Produce development layouts and stope notes following engineering best practice. Facilitate conceptual meetings for mine design. Collaborate with various department to ensure practicality of design. Optimize ore recovery with safe and efficient recovery. Review upcoming UG projects and integrate them into the plans. Develop a good understanding of the underground operating conditions, to provide safe and reasonable recommendations regarding mine planning inputs. Visit all underground active mining areas. Review scheduling criteria on a regular basis and update as required. Assist with updating mine planning standards and procedures. Assisting with special projects that arise within the planning and project teams.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of engineering in Mining (with enrollment in PEO), Mine Technologist or equivalent. Experience with Deswik mining software. Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to walk significant grades underground and lift 50 lbs. Valid driver's license required. Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a team environment with geology, engineering and production personnel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others. Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.
