Position Overview:

The City of Saint John, Growth & Community Services, is seeking a Manager of P.R.O. Kids - Positive Recreation Opportunities for Kids, temporary position. This position is responsible for managing this program and further developing its potential for the Greater Saint John area.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Community Support Services, the Manager of P.R.O. Kids will work closely with the P.R.O. Kids Advisory Committee and will be responsible for ensuring that all policies, procedures, and business practices needed to accomplish this important community initiative are in place.

The successful incumbent will have an understanding of non-profit organizations, a creative approach to fundraising, and the ability to work independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and event planning are required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing the P.R.O. Kids non-profit program that provides opportunities for children and youth to participate in positive healthy recreational, sport, art, and cultural activities.

• Work closely with the P.R.O. Kids Advisory Committee, providing leadership and direction on fundraising and event planning initiatives, program and service opportunities, policy, and process improvement recommendations.

• Setting clear strategic direction in line with overall service area objectives such as inclusive programs and services, community recreation related matters, operating budgets, capital budgets, corporate priorities and annual work plans and program development.

• Report regularly to senior staff, and Common Council on policies and protocols, program efforts and outcomes.

• Support the Senior Manager, Community Support Services, by providing insight, guidance and support and acting on their behalf as appropriate.

• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with community partners, donors, and volunteers.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.

• Is responsible to ensure policies, procedures, and business practices are in place and followed.

• Responsible for the development and implementation of marketing plans and fundraising strategies, including event management.

• Prepare operating and capital budget requests, reviewing and authorizing budget expenditures, monitoring and analyzing monthly budget summaries and taking action.

• Managing and approving the purchase of goods and services by way of requisitions, purchase orders, payment vouchers, etc. and authorizing payment of invoices within established organizational limits and budgetary restrictions.

• Overseeing the planning, supervision, control and co-ordination of programs, activities, operations, and projects within the work unit.

• Manage staff, clearly communicating staff responsibilities and functions, and set appropriate performance standards.

• Create a motivating and safe work environment that encourages self-assessment, continuous learning and improvement, achievement, and accountability.

• Ensure a positive and productive employee relation climate.

Essential Qualifications:

University Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Event Planning or a related field.

Minimum of 5 (five) years progressive experience in leading and directing fundraising strategies, event management, marketing plans, and serving the community.

Proficiency in both official languages would be a definite asset.

The successful applicant will be eligible to work a compressed work week of 4 days (Monday to Thursday) throughout the trial period of the City's recently adopted Compressed Work Week Trial. This schedule is subject to change.
