Our client is searching the market for a Financial Controller, someone who is excited about becoming a part of the leadership team with a focus on leading the accounting functions. This position is ideal for a candidate who has experience working for a food industry in the finance management role with a solid understanding of business and strong organizational and analytical skills. The client is looking for a serious, career-oriented individual interested in joining a growing team of professionals.

The position reports to the General Manager and will play a key role in guiding the growth, efficiency and profitability of the organization.

What you'll be doing

With new investment in the business fueling significant growth plans, the controller will be a critical person to guide the team on reaching its short-term commitments while delivering its long-term growth. As a member of the plant's senior leadership team, use your financial acumen to own the relationship with the lenders and lead the teams to financial decision making to ensure commitments are delivered on. Architect the ERP system usage and costing systems for the current plant and new plant. Lead and manage the daily cashflows in and out of the business, including finding ways of improving ease and efficiency. With support and coaching from the high caliber General Manager grow the business and own the finance roll.

Practically speaking, you will:

Create clarity - Moving forward in a positive way is equal parts of knowing where we've got to get to, where we are and how we're doing in getting there. Create the appropriate models and tools to help the team navigate and follow the course; including costing/pricing decision making tools and KPIs.
Find opportunity - Each of us can contribute our perspectives on where we can improve, provide your insights. Opportunities to improve are limitless, help the team prioritize and focus on the ones that will maximize the results.
Work towards the future - Own and evolve the current financial and I.T. systems with a view for creating robustness and efficiency in the current plant as well as establishing the systems to handle the scale of the new plant.
Versatility - Be versatile as one of the Sr. leaders, a role model for behaviors and willing to assist outside typical role in situations where leadership is required for the good of the business and its people.
Stakeholder management - Finance is the life blood of the business; key partners need to know about it's health.
Manage the message - Own the reporting to ensure its truthful, accurate and also comprehensive in terms of explanations, insights into critical drivers of results and go forward plans.
Timing is everything - Develop your system to ensure payments in and out, reports and filings are all happening at the appropriate moments. Be wholistic in terms of stakeholders including Customers, Suppliers, Banks, Government agencies. Lead the team so that the needed flow of information and requirements is happening to support the needs of the function.
Obligations and records - Take control of the system of books and records to ensure they are compliant with regulatory requirements and good practices.
Other duties as required.

The Details

This is a full-time, permanent position, working in the office from 9 am to 5 pm for 5 days/week. The client offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. You will also receive a standard medical benefits, vacation, and paid Holidays.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting, or relevant experience
5-10 years of experience in accounting and finance, payroll, material management, and operational process improvement
3+ years of experience with GAAP - Generally accepted accounting principles
Knowledge and understanding of food and beverage industry (FMCG, manufacturing, and Food. Protein experience would be considered an asset)
Professional designation: CA, CMA etc.
Excellent competencies in functional areas such as Financial Reporting and Planning, KPI reports, Cash Flow forecasting, Operational leadership, system implementation, and process analysis
Excellent working knowledge of accounting software -SAGE ERP, Simply Accounting
Advanced competency level in Excel (VLOOKUP formulas, Pivot tables, Excel formulas)
Advanced competency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
