Role Overview:

The Wine Consultant is responsible for providing and implementing strategic direction, coaching and training for both our team members and guests and supporting department managers while making safety a top priority in carrying out daily job duties.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Liquor Area Manager, the Wine Specialist will work closely with the Buying Team to provide training, guidance, and coaching to the Team Members in our Angry Otter locations to support sales growth within liquor categories. This role is an integral part of the Liquor Division team. The Wine Specialist will work collaboratively with the Buyers and the Category Manager, and they will assist with executing programming, sales training, and product education. They will also assist Store Managers and their teams in guest service excellence and sales consistent with company direction and goals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for duties such as but are not limited to the following:

  • Engage Team Members and guests enthusiastically, creating excitement and interest in product and product knowledge
  • Drive category sales growth by implementing educational (product knowledge/sales techniques, etc.) and creative programs, created by the Buying Team, in our liquor stores for both our team members and guests that are aligned with company values and interests
  • Interact with guests on the sales floor to provide expert advice, build rapport and grow relationships
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team and across the organization
  • Work with Reps in a manner that supports company and Store Manager vision and expectations
  • Foster an inclusive and diverse team environment that values teamwork and professional growth. Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team and across the organization
  • Support private tasting events and represent the company as a brand ambassador at community and industry events
  • Maintain current industry and product knowledge through periodicals, social media, meetings, and industry news/events
  • Assist Store Managers to enhance existing programs to improve the team member and guest experience as needed
  • Work collaboratively with Store Managers to ensure that merchandising standards are being maintained and all programs are being implemented, measured, and managed
  • Perform regular store duties including stocking, ordering, and guest service.
  • Ensure to adhere to BCLDB operating guidelines and all government regulations in labeling, pricing, sanitation, food safety, and health & safety while in any location
  • Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence
  • To perform other duties as assigned

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Customer Service Management and:

  • The ideal candidate is a liquor enthusiast with extensive knowledge and experience in the liquor industry who is passionate about training and promoting a sales culture that is positive and engaging
  • WSET 3 Certification preferred, minimum of WSET 2 is required, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to manage computer files efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communications skills, motivation, and ability to work in a busy environment
  • Self-starter with motivation and ability to work both independently and as a team in a busy retail environment
  • Effective planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain relationships outside of the organization that support the organization
  • Enjoy working with the public and strive to provide a consistent and superior guest service experience
  • MUST be over 19 years of age to be considered
  • MUST be available 7 days a week to work between early mornings, afternoons and late evenings
  • This position is based out of our Monashees Liquor Store, occasional travel will be required to work at other locations in the Interior and Lower Mainland as business needs arise
