In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide operational support to the detachment and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.

Note: this position follows a shiftwork schedule that includes evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $33.20 to $37.88 per hour in compliance with the applicable OPPA collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2023, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

The results of this competition will be used to fill current and future opportunities with qualified eligible candidates during the next 12 months following the competition closing. There are no provisions for relocation, accommodation or travel (including meals or vehicles) for this position. Exact dates are to be determined.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. Norfolk County is 1607 sq. km. and it shares its border with Elgin, Oxford, Brant and Haldimand Counties. The main detachment is located in Simcoe. In addition, we have strategically placed community policing offices in Port Dover, Waterford, Delhi, Teeterville, Langton, Courtland, Port Rowan and Turkey Point in order to allow the public more access to our members.

What can I expect to do in this role?You will provide operational support to the detachment and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.

How do I qualify?Mandatory• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• 40 w.p.m. typing speed.
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Ability to plan and prioritize administrative work on a daily basis.
• Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests from callers, relay messages, and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services, and the public.
Oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact with officers.
• Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports, and summarize information.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in performing clerical and administrative support duties. Supervision is available for the more difficult decisions and question.
• Knowledge of and skill in computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence.
• Ability to select appropriate format/design for office documents including presentations, utilizing various software, which involves the selection of advanced features to manipulate data/information and shape appearance.
• Ability to make editing/proofreading changes to documents, reports, letters, and memoranda.
