The Electrophysiology Lab is a highly computerized cardiac investigation and treatment room. The Cardiac Device Technologist (CDT) is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, networking, and troubleshooting of the integrated computer and imaging systems used to diagnose and treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. Under the supervision of an interventional cardiologist/electrophysiologist, the CDT controls the electrical stimulation applied to the heart of a patient undergoing an electrophysiology diagnostic test, ablation procedure, and post-treatment assessment. This requires the CDT to recognize and analyze electrical signals from the heart for the purpose of assisting the electrophysiologist(s) in the diagnosis and creation of a treatment plan.

In the Device OR role , the CDT (also) assists in patient care at the table pre/post procedure, as requested by the physician and/or nursing staff. As part of the Arrhythmia services the CDT performs complete interrogation of implanted pacemaker, ICD and CRT devices in the following areas:

    • Clinic
    • Floors (including MRI)
    • ER
    • OR

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program a variety of device software platforms - Troubleshoot device intracardiac electrograms
  • Access and interact with patient electronic medical record
  • Attend Procedure area (OR or Cath lab) for device implants and run analyzer software
  • Assessment of lead position and function in the Procedure rooms
  • Organizes and completes documentation of information pertaining to implant procedures
  • Perform office functions
  • Needs to proficiently perform the following:
    • Device follow up assessments (pacemaker, ICD, CRT, ILR)
    • Triage coordination and clinic flow
    • Data entry
    • 12 lead ECG¿s
    • Deliver technical information in a meaningful way to patients and families
    • Patient and family pre and post op education

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Physiology and/or Anatomy preferred
  • Successful completion of a recognized Cardiovascular Technology Diploma required
  • Registered CSCT required and/or agreed to obtain within 8 months of hire
  • Must be familiar with contemporary pacing practices and be able to respond to emergency situations appropriately (ie pacemaker/ICD/CRT functions, clinical indications, follow-up and lead malfunctions)
  • Recent Pacemaker/ICD/CRT Clinic experience and minimum 1 year previous experience in ECG interpretation required - 2 years preferred
  • Knowledge of radiation safety
  • BCLS certification required
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic environment
  • Must possess strong computer skills
  • Must be able to work with cutting edge technology
  • Must be familiar with computer data processing and possess strong data entry skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent teaching and staff development skills
  • Must have an excellent attendance record
  • Must be able to wear lead frock for extended periods of time
