Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager for Cardiac Diagnostics, the Neurodiagnostic Technologist plays an essential role in the diagnosis of health conditions affecting the muscles and nerve cells, brain diseases, injury and tumor. The successful candidate will possess the knowledge, skills and judgement to independently perform complex diagnostic testing such as electroencephalography (EEG), and electromyography (EMG) through nerve conductive studies (NCS) using specialized and sensitive electronic diagnostic equipment in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

They will also perform documentation, equipment monitoring, cleaning and maintenance, and other duties as assigned including: - assessing, planning implementation and evaluating patient care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary patient centered care environment. Requirements:
• College/University undergraduate degree in a Health Sciences, or related field with an in-depth knowledge of neurophysiology
• Diploma from a recognized neurodiagnostic technologist program
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologists (CBRET) and the Board of Registered EMG Technologists of Canada (BRETC)
• Member in good standing of the Canadian Association of EEG Technologists (CAET) and the Association of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (AETC)
• Preferably 2 years clinical experience performing EEG, EMG, NCS with demonstrated ability to work independently
• Good knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, infection control, basic electronics and electrical safety
• Current BCLS
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, assess patient capabilities and limitations and make practice adjustments as necessary
• Ability to interpret and evaluate clinical data and information
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and improving individual competence, as well as contributing to the education and development of students and co-workers
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills and be able to work accurately and productively under stress
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
