The Salvation Army London Village has been an integral part of the London community since 1954 providing excellence in care to families in need. The London Village offers a variety of programs to meet the diverse needs of families including a Childcare Centre, Respite Program for individuals with intellectual disabilities and Adult Day Program for seniors. Our program site sits on 9 ½ acres of beautiful green space and offers a gymnasium, pool, pavilion and playground equipment for everyone to enjoy. This position is best suited for someone that can fulfill our pledge to encourage participant independence, advocate for community inclusion, foster friendships and provide positive role modeling.

  • Completed two (2) years of Community College in related education (Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma or equivalent) in the area of developmental disabilities.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification preferred.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior work experience in a social service setting providing direct care to children, youth and adults who have intellectual disabilities, dealing with crises.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required - i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Email and Internet etc.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License is required, current original copy of driver's abstract, which is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, also required.
  • Fluent French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
