Richmond, Canada Saltworks Technologies Full time

Saltworks Technologies (Richmond, BC) is a global technology leader in advanced industrial desalination and lithium refining. Our innovative machines produce clean water from high-strength industrial discharges and refine lithium to support the energy transition. We offer meaningful and exciting work in a collaborative environment, driven by innovation and problem-solving. We're a fast growing company offering exceptional career opportunities, driven by major global trends.

The role:

If you have an engineering background and are experienced in delivering systems/projects to completion, the Intermediate Commissioning Engineer role at Saltworks might be for you.

In a commissioning capacity, you will lead exciting projects while working directly with industry-leading clients. This will involve creating and managing budgets, schedules, and project plans. You will also work with multiple teams to drive our projects to completion while maintaining customer excellence. This role has significant room for advancement, with the potential to lead the team. You will work closely with senior leaders at Saltworks who will train and mentor you. In turn, you will gain leadership skills by developing junior commissioning engineers and technologists.

On average, your work will be 50% at customer sites and 50% at our headquarters. Field shifts generally require 2-3 weeks at site, followed by a similar time at headquarters. Further afield locations may require longer periods at site.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of innovative clean technology solutions, leveraging your technical expertise and team-oriented skills.
  • Oversee the entire commissioning project lifecycle, working closely with our Project Management Office (PMO) and Engineering teams to commission systems/plants at our factory and customer sites.
  • Engage in comprehensive commissioning planning, encompassing budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and procedure/standard development for factory and site commissioning.
  • Represent Saltworks at customer job sites. Collaborate with your team to deliver high-quality system/plant commissioning and ensure a seamless handover to customers (regular international travel will be required).
  • Bring forward design feedback, driving continuous improvement and innovation within our engineering teams.
  • Implement standardized, efficient commissioning processes while enhancing our cutting-edge industrial desalination and resource recovery plants.
  • Become a subject matter expert, enabling you to keep and expand technical skills while also developing project management skills.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • No travel constraints: You must have a valid passport and be able to travel to customer sites internationally.
  • A relevant Engineering degree or diploma in any of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Integrated, or Commissioning.
  • The ability to register as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant working experience as an engineer in an industrial setting, particularly in the backend of project delivery and handover.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards for mechanically and electrically energized systems.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality commissioning work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Proficiency and hands-on experience in hydrostatic testing, mechanical and electrical commissioning, process control commissioning, and field commissioning.
  • Collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure commissioning processes are safety oriented.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, adept in risk management, and an excellent troubleshooting mindset.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, complemented by outstanding communication skills.
This position also requires these universal skill sets:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain a high quality of work and quickly learn new skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgency in completing projects on time.
  • Ability to work well in a team-focused environment.
  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality work, while meeting deadlines.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to guide and support a rapidly growing team.
  • Positive attitude, can-do approach, and willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in as required.
  • Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills (not essential, yet beneficial if you like this type of work).
  • Bonus: experience leading a technical commissioning crew at a factory or job site.
