ACCOUNTABILITYSTATEMENT:

Track Labourers / Technicians work as apart of the Rail Infrastructure team that is responsible for the ongoingmaintenance and safety of our 693 miles of track. Track Labourers / Technicians are responsiblefor inspecting, repairing and replacing rails, ties, switches and ballast. Ontario Northland’s track extends northfrom North Bay to Moosonee near James Bay and west from Hearst toRouyn-Noranda, Quebec in the east.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performtasks associated with track work including but not limited to, pulling anddriving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, and othertrack components
  • Ensurerailroad right-of-way is clear of brush, vegetation and snow
  • Operatein a safe and efficient manner, all equipment and tools associated with trackmaintenance
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules,operating and maintenance instructions and federal and provincial regulations
  • Complyfully with all safety rules, policies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience within the labour industry
  • Ability to work effectivelywithin a team
  • Performduties that require heavy lifting
  • Goodhand eye coordination
  • W orkoutdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to work in isolated areas
  • Travelfrequently and be away from home for extended periods of time
  • Committed to Company Health and Safety
  • Able to qualify in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), and MTR (Transport Canada Rules Respecting Track Safety)
  • Must possess a minimum of ‘G’ driver’s licence
  • W ork varying schedules as per operational requirements, examples include:

5days on / 2 days off

7days on / 7 days off

4 days on / 3 days off

8 days on / 6 days off

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent lifting up to50lbs
  • Occasional lifting up to75lbs
  • Extended periods ofstanding & walking
  • Carrying objectsweighing 50 to 75lbs
  • Using hand tools thatweigh in excess of 20lbs
  • Working outdoors invarious weather conditions (sometimes extreme) and regular exposure todust and pollen
  • Regular exposure tonoise and vibration
  • Walking and working overrough terrain and embankments
