Position Overview: The Carbon Offset Project Development role involves identifying, evaluating, and implementing projects that generate carbon offsets, contributing to efforts to mitigate climate change. This position requires a combination of project management, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement skills to develop and execute carbon offset projects across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Identification and Evaluation:

  • Identify potential carbon offset projects in areas such as renewable energy, forestry, agriculture, waste management, and industrial processes.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and technical evaluations to determine the viability of carbon offset projects, considering factors such as emission reduction potential, project costs, and regulatory requirements.

Project Design and Implementation:

  • Develop project plans and strategies for the implementation of carbon offset projects, including timeline, budget, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to execute project activities, such as site assessments, technology selection, and permit acquisition.

Carbon Accounting and Verification:

  • Develop methodologies and protocols for quantifying and verifying carbon emissions reductions or removals generated by offset projects.
  • Work with carbon registries, auditors, and third-party verifiers to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines for carbon offset validation and verification.

Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Cultivate relationships with project developers, landowners, community organizations, and other stakeholders to secure project partnerships and support.
  • Collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to leverage funding opportunities and policy support for carbon offset projects.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay informed about relevant regulations, policies, and market trends related to carbon offsetting and climate change mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations for carbon offset projects, including emissions reporting, documentation, and certification.

Monitoring and Impact Assessment:

  • Establish monitoring and evaluation systems to track the performance and impact of carbon offset projects over time.
  • Analyze project data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of emission reduction strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CDP, CCB) preferred.
  • Experience in project management, preferably in the development and implementation of environmental or sustainability projects.
  • Knowledge of carbon offset methodologies, standards, and certification schemes (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard, CDM).
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of environmental policy, climate change mitigation strategies, and sustainable development goals.
