The ideal candidate will have experience managing both a production facility and a team. They should be able to analyze each step of the manufacturing process and make effective use of resources to deliver desired outcomes. The candidate will also have an ability to follow safety and compliance guidelines diligently in order to create a healthy work environment for all employees.

Span of Management

  • Manages, supports, and coaches direct reports including Production Supervisors, Production Clerk, and Maintenance Supervisor in delivering on their areas of responsibility, keeping them engaged in the business objectives and appropriately mentoring and developing them in their careers.
  • Coordinates production activities with Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance and Quality groups to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.

Operations Leadership

  • Leads plant personnel by being a role model for fact-based problem solving, support and facility upkeep. Is a respected presence on the floor and has a pulse on the day-to-day issues.
  • Develops novel processes and foster a culture of stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • As a member of the leadership team, fosters a management style that supports excellence, personal growth and mutual respect through communications and practices that promote employee involvement and commitment at all levels.
  • Accounts for the conduct and performance of all reports and addresses employee-related problems in accordance with company practices.In conjunction with human resources, conducts investigations and interviews to resolve company policy violations.
  • Guides and directs employees in a fair and non-discriminative manner.
  • Promotes positive employee relations through open door policy.
  • Promotes a team environment where Mechanics, Supervisors, and Managers work together to resolve issues through effective communication.
  • Conducts interviews, hire, train, and evaluate performance of employees.

Health and Safety

  • Acts as role model for safe behavior.
  • Maintains a high level of personal safety while enforcing company safety practices.
  • Ensures all team members are aware of and comply with safe working practices in order to minimize lost time accidents and incidents

Quality and Material Control

Ensures policies and procedures are effective and followed in daily Production operations in order to minimize field recalls and customer complaints

  • Ensures new operating procedures, job descriptions, training requirements etc, are kept up to date.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work order and inventory transactions of the Production team to minimize inventory loss and accurately capture labour efficiency
  • Develops and implements safe operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.

Scheduling

  • Ensures schedules for Pick, and Assembly are clear and effective
  • Monitors the status of the strategic inventory buffer at Pick and works with Supply Chain to remedy any deficiencies in buffer level
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems. Initiates discussion with affected parties to minimize any disruption to the customer base.

Maintenance

  • Manages and oversees Maintenance team by measuring downtime and increasing the ratio of proactive to reactive maintenance work.
  • Optimizes and measures Preventative Maintenance schedule attainment and equipment up-time performance.

Plant Output and On-time Delivery

  • Meets plant daily/weekly/monthly output and work order delivery targets as set by Supply Chain through the budgeting and Sales and Operations Master Production Schedule (MPS) process
  • Works with Supply Chain and customers to ensure OEM sales demands are met
  • Monitors production performance over all shifts using visual daily management techniques and daily production status meetings. Work with other departments to implement changes and correct deficiencies.

Cost Effectiveness

  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products to ensure production rate and labour efficiency targets are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Manages and controls Production labour and materials spending by gauging production needs, overtime hours, bookings, scrap/waste material
  • Manages and controls Maintenance operations and materials expenditures
  • Participates in product costing activities to maximize the probability of obtaining new business
  • Ensures unit standard hours and budgeted Direct Labour and Overhead $ per standard hour rates are met by Production team
  • Proactively manages labour efficiency and line utilization to ensure capacity is available to meet the Sales and Operations MPS

Continuous Improvement

  • Develops and executes LEAN strategy and related cost-out projects.Promotes cost reduction through effective utilization of manpower and analyze data to identify waste.
  • Benchmarks plant performance with industry standards and/or best practices to identify areas for operational improvement
  • Manages key Capex projects and operational initiatives as assigned
  • Assists Director of Operations as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum 5 years working experience in medical device manufacturing
  • Minimum 10 years working experience as a manufacturing operations leader
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a technical field preferably Engineering
  • Management/Supervisory exposure to Maintenance best practices with working knowledge of trades such as electrical, machining, plumbing etc.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to keep all lines of communication open within inter-company departments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and while juggling multiple priorities.

WORK EVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Time will be spent in the facility and on the plant floor wherever problems occur.
  • Will ensure that all employees and himself / herself comply with all Health and Safety requirements.
  • Safety devices, such as welding helmet, goggles, glasses etc. must be worn by the maintenance staff where required.
  • Comply with CHS GMP clothing requirements at all times.
