Le Centre de médecine comparative et de ressources animalières (CMARC), situé au Bureau de la vice-principale à la recherche et à l’innovation (VPRI), a pour mission de fournir des soins de pointe à l’échelle de l’Université, fondés sur un engagement professionnel pour le bien-être des animaux et les services vétérinaires, à l’appui de la mission en recherche de l’Université.

Vous relevez de la vétérinaire de l’Université et vice-principale adjointe aux soins animaliers (VPA) et assurez la direction opérationnelle et la supervision des services de soins aux animaux, de l’équipement et de l’infrastructure de toutes les installations du CMARC. Vous travaillez en étroite collaboration avec la VPA aux soins animaliers et vétérinaires de l’Université ainsi que le directeur, soins vétérinaires et services techniques, et la directrice du Bureau de conformité aux normes du bien-être des animaux pour que les opérations soient conformes à l’orientation stratégique de l’unité.

Veiller à ce que les installations du CMARC soient conformes aux réglementations du Conseil canadien de protection des animaux, aux réglementations des trois organismes subventionnaires et à toutes les réglementations locales, provinciales et fédérales.
Élaborer, mettre en œuvre et évaluer des procédures opérationnelles normalisées afin d’assurer des soins animaliers de qualité supérieure.
Être un contributeur clé à l’élaboration d’objectifs stratégiques annuels et pluriannuels pour le CMARC, dont des indicateurs clés de rendement et des mesures de la qualité. Faire en sorte que des contrats de maintenance préventive adéquats permettent d’éviter toute interruption des équipements à grande échelle.

Gestion de l’approvisionnement des stocks
~ Assurer une gestion et une supervision rationalisées des processus d’approvisionnement, sur la base des meilleures pratiques et dans le respect de toutes les réglementations applicables

Diplôme supérieur dans un domaine d’étude connexe, tel que sciences animales ou médecine vétérinaire.
Un minimum de 5 années d’expérience en gestion d’une installation de recherche sur les animaux.
Avoir d’excellentes qualités relationnelles.

The Comparative Medicine and Animal Resources Centre (CMARC) is housed within the Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation. Its mission is to provide world-class university-wide care built on professional dedication to animal welfare and veterinary services, in support of the University’s research mission.

Reporting to the University Veterinarian and Associate Vice President (AVP), Animal Care, the Associate Director provides operational leadership and oversight for animal care services, equipment, and infrastructure of all CMARC facilities. The incumbent works closely with the AVP, Animal Care and University Veterinarian, as well as the Director, Veterinary Care & Technical Services, and the Associate Director of the Animal Compliance Office to ensure alignment of operations with the unit’s strategic direction. Responsible for designing and implementing key initiatives and best practices, as well as overseeing CMARC’s operations, facilities, and systems to ensure that animals used in research and teaching are cared for and used in accordance with university requirements, provincial compliance policies, and guidelines of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC). Directly Supervises a team of professional and technical staff.

Ensures CMARC’s facilities are in compliance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care, Tri-Agency regulations, and all local, provincial and federal regulations.
Assist in the evaluation of staff performance, providing ongoing staff mentoring and counseling as required.
Act as the main contact for operational and finance/grant application inquiries for 4 faculties including Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, Dentistry, and Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
Key contributor in the development of annual and multi-year strategic objectives for CMARC, including key performance indicators, and quality metrics. Assess and ensure key performance indicators are met within each of CMARC’s functional units.
Provide guidance and expertise to faculty, researchers, and staff across McGill, applying knowledge of best practices for leading research animal care institutions.
In collaboration with HR, defines the desired culture and cultivate it through leadership actions including strategies, and key results that prioritize culture-building.
In collaboration with the AVP Animal Care, Finance Officer, E&I Manager, develop a multi-year plan for the maintenance and replacement of CMARC’s scientific equipment and large infrastructure projects and oversee the implementation of related projects.

Responsible for ensuring the Health and Safety of all CMARC employees by ensuring all regulatory and compliance related safety measures are met or exceeded.


Advanced degree in a related field of study, such as Animal Sciences or Veterinary Medicine.
Minimum of 5 years experience in managing an animal research facility.
Bilingual, English and French.
Strong Leadership & Operational experience around animal research facilities (compliance with provincial, federal, and all applicable regulations).
Contact with oversight bodies and agencies, Animal Care Committees (locally), and CCAC, CFIA (nationally), etc.
