Our mission is to enable Ambient Power IoT with sensing everywhere on existing protocols such as Wi-Fi.

We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer with a strong background in RF technologies and low-power communications chip design. As the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for spearheading the design, development, and optimization of our communications chip, while leading a talented team of engineers across various disciplines. Based in Montreal and Ottawa, HaiLa is supported by leading sustainability-focused venture investors as well as Stanford University and Murata Electronics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team of engineers including supporting chip development and related activities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other teams to set project goals, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Drive innovation by staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in electrical engineering.
  • Ensure HaiLa’s products meet performance metrics including power and battery life requirements.
  • Responsible for the chip bring up, characterization and validation.
  • Facilitate smooth inter-team communication and collaboration.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance, troubleshooting complex problems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports, updates, and findings to senior management.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master’s or PhD is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in hardware development with focus in communications systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading and managing hardware and software development teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of communication protocols and standards.
  • Experience in hardware development including tools like Altium and ADS.
  • Familiarity with embedded software and firmware development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Hands-on approach with a passion for continuous learning and development.
