The Role:

We are seeking a Senior IT Applications Manager to join our growing Technology team at Medcan. This role provides pivotal support to Medcan’s digital transformation and clinic expansion efforts, as well as provides the technology backbone that supports our day-to-day clinic and business operations. In this role, you’ll be responsible for our electronic medical records application, finance management application and tools, HRMS, and enterprise integration platform. You will collaborate directly with business and technology stakeholders to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions to support our business.

Accountabilities:

  • Managing an application portfolio and associated projects while prioritizing team workload and capacity.
  • Identifying opportunities for application optimization, redesign, or process improvement - focused on collaboration systems and internal tools.
  • Partnering with business stakeholders, vendors, and IT management to provide a strategic vision for new and supported applications and create system roadmaps and business processes.
  • Addressing stakeholder groups’ various needs, concerns, and expectations in planning and executing projects, meeting requirements, and creating project deliverables.
  • Balancing competing project constraints, including but not limited to scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources, and risks to accommodate the needs of each user/customer.
  •  Building a robust technical culture around our business systems that emphasizes technical excellence, rapid iteration, robust security, and frictionless user experiences.
  • Partner with the business to continuously improve, optimize and enhance processes and their use of applications to maximize the benefits of investments in technology.
  • Provide and own inputs to financial and capital planning processes.
  • Ensure the continuous delivery of IT services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of systems performance.
  • Review software acquisition and maintenance contracts and assist with establishing master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
  • Assess and communicate risks associated with applications within the portfolio and understand the total cost of ownership for technology investment decisions.
  • Develop business cases and cost/benefit analyses for IT application spending and initiatives. This includes build vs buy, cloud vs on-prem, and insource vs outsource.
  • Direct the team on consultation with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  • Evaluate market trends in healthcare technology and emerging integrations with provincial systems.
  • Ensure documentation is maintained or developed to support QA activities, solution design and knowledge articles for support teams in our document repositories.
  • Effectively manage people resources across your portfolio and help foster a culture of growth and improvement, agility, and can-do attitudes.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years managing people, including building and leading teams of high-performing IT professionals.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Experience managing external IT service providers and assessing the risk and cost implications of IT contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Experience with onshore, nearshore, and offshore development and support processes.
  • Experience in leading initiatives and teams through design, building, transforming, and managing applications in the cloud and application modernization strategies.
  • Experience working with Agile development processes is strongly preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of methodology and principles for systems architecture, technical design, software development and integration technology.
  • Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis to day-to-day management.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities with competing resource demands.
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience within a Healthcare setting and some knowledge of Workday, MuleSoft, Azure, Salesforce, or similar applications and an EMR system such as Accuro are strongly preferred.
