Job Opening: Health & Safety Technician

We currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Health & Safety Technician based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. Reporting to the Director, Safety, as the Health & Safety Technician at Conair, your role is to provide health and safety support to our team. You are self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized and focused on results.

When striving to improve safety performance, you can be directive when needed, but you prefer a collaborative approach to addressing safety problems with colleagues. Team members know you have their back and appreciate your contribution to their health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensuring compliance with the Canada Labour Code – Part II, federal health and safety regulations, manufacturers’ recommended safety guidelines and company policies;
  2. Conducting on-site inspections and audits at Conair facilities and field bases to ensure observance of safe work practices;
  3. Identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, documenting findings and assisting Company personnel in maintaining safety guidelines, procedures, and policies;
  4. Investigating and preparing reports on accidents and incidents and making recommendations to prevent reoccurrence;
  5. Managing health and safety records and ensuring compliance with mandatory reporting requirements;
  6. Conducting safety training in numerous topics such as new-hire orientation; use of personal protective equipment; confined space entry; hazardous chemicals; operating aerial lifts and forklifts; spill prevention and response; and other safety topics as required;
  7. Providing assistance to the Director, Safety in designing safety protocols and training; preparing safety manuals, procedures and guidelines; and maintaining training records for each employee;
  8. Facilitating the Conair Occupational Safety and Health Committee;
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Director, Safety.
Requirements
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Outlook and Excel;
  • Demonstrated ability to gain employee respect and influence change;
  • Able to travel within Canada & internationally;
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code-Part II - Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Training/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Valid driver’s license; Diploma or other qualification in a related field (such as Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License) and a minimum of three years’ work experience in that field; one year of direct safety-related experience such as auditing, training, investigations, and communications;

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship or permanent residency)
