The Innovation and Inclusion Branch of the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) is seeking an Indigenous Apprenticeship Liaison to provide support for Indigenous apprentices in Saskatchewan. Indigenous Apprenticeship Liaisons are highly skilled individuals with extensive knowledge of Saskatchewan First Nations, Metis, and other Indigenous governance organizations, cultural protocols, and traditional cultural and business practice; demonstrated knowledge of adult-learning principles and the role of assessment, intervention and evaluation in the education system for planning program improvement, and for achieving stakeholder accountability and confidence particularly related to adult learning and development process; and a strong background in coaching and mentoring to help provide support to Indigenous apprentices to enhance their completion of certification rates. You will work in partnership with the Learning strategies to foster resilience in indigenous apprentices and increase their self-confidence, self-sufficiency, and self-sustainability. Grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, you will mentor and coach Indigenous apprentices to incorporate a learning style suitable to their unique needs by helping them to identify and capitalize on their strengths and compensate for any barriers to learning; helping apprentices implement learning strategies along with corresponding technologies in areas such as organization, analytical comprehension, general study and coping skills, critical thinking, assignment planning, and time management; and assisting Indigenous apprentices in self-monitoring and in the development of their learning skills. Mentorship and coaching will consist of activities performed or coordinated by persons who have the credentials to work with other individuals or groups of individuals, to assist them in developing an understanding self and the environment to make the most appropriate personal decisions and adjustments. The process will include a planned progression of client-centered experiences to enable individuals acquire attitudes, knowledge, skills, and competencies related to life/career, decision-making, planning, or other-related issues or conflicts. Typically, the knowledge required for this role would normally be attained through lived cultural (Indigenous) experience or taking cultural competency training and a degree in Education, a diploma or a certificate program related to adult Education and/or a journey person status in a designated trade requiring four levels of training at an educational institute and four – five years of trade time. However, a combination of education and relevant experience in Human services including coaching and mentorship may be considered.
