PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is a not-for-profit organization located in the Downtown Eastside community for over 30 years. VAHS programs are designed by and for urban Aboriginal people to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Our services include a Primary Care Clinic, a Dental Clinic, a cultural team of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous Early Years programs.

The VAHS Women's Mobile Primary Care (WMPC) program addresses the pressing health care needs of women in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community of Vancouver, particularly those facing homelessness, health issues, mental health and/or substance use challenges. Utilizing a mobile health unit, the WMPC offers accessible, culturally safe, and responsive healthcare services directly to women in need, aiming to overcome geographic, temporal, and cultural barriers to healthcare access.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of the WMPC program. The position involves supervising the day-to-day activities of the program, leading a multidisciplinary team, and collaborating closely with the Program Manager to implement program strategies, evaluate performance, and facilitate continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality services
  • Support the facilitation of team meetings, manage staff schedules, and supervise staff outreach
  • Conduct the performance evaluations of select program staff
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and culturally safe working environment

PROGRAM OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the Program Manager in the development and implementation of program policies, procedures, and standards
  • Coordinate program logistics, including mobile unit scheduling, site selection, van stocking and supplies, and resource allocation
  • Monitor activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and funder requirements
  • If able, drive the WMPC van if the Driver is unavailable

CLIENT CARE AND ENGAGEMENT

  • Ensure the program effectively meets the needs of the client population, focusing on accessibility, respect, cultural awareness, and cultural sensitivity
  • Oversee intake, assessment, and referral processes to ensure a seamless continuum of care
  • Conduct periodic reviews of client files and case notes
  • Support the Program Manager in building a case management framework for the program
  • Address client concerns and feedback, ensuring a client-centered approach to service delivery

STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and other service providers to enhance program reach and impact
  • Represent the program in community forums, workshops, and meetings to advocate for client needs and program growth

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND REPORTING

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager in evaluating the program's effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategic changes
  • Prepare reports and analyses on program activities, outcomes, and impacts for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement program evaluation tools and program management approaches

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, social work, public health, or a related field
  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in program supervision or management, preferably in a health care or social services setting
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiar with Indigenous teachings and approaches to health and wellness
  • Strong understanding of the health care needs and challenges faced by women in the DTES, with a commitment to providing culturally competent and inclusive care
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with regulatory standards and funding requirements relevant to health and social services
  • Proficient in office technology, data management, and reporting tools
  • A valid BC driver's license is an asset but is not required

VAHS encourages all people with relevant professional, grassroots, education, and/or lived experience to apply, even if they do not meet all of the points listed. We look for people who are committed to achieving better health outcomes for homeless, Indigenous, and/or vulnerable women.

Due to this program serving a diverse community of women, this position is open to women (trans-inclusive) only, in alignment with Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code .
