Agro Division Manager

South Country Co-op is hiring an Agro Division Manager to lead our Agriculture locations across our trading areas within Southern Alberta. Reporting to the Vice President of Ag & Energy, this permanent full-time position will have a preference to be based at our Administration Office in Medicine Hat, Alberta, however considerations may be made for the position to be based out of another one our locations within our trading areas. 

What you’ll do:
As the Agro Division Manager, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leading growth and business development within the Agriculture Division. You will lead corporate performance management, strategic planning, marketing, facilities management and operations, risk management, and annual operating and capital budgets in alignment with our Values, Vision, Mission, Culture, and Brand. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Senior Leadership Team to provide guidance and support in Agro sales growth, financial, and operational improvements. 
  • Provide strategic leadership for the operations of Agro Division to achieve growth and business development objectives. 
  • Accountable for the overall management of the Agro Division business plan and budget to meet sales, expense, and profit objectives. 
  • Prioritize growth initiatives across divisions based on corporate goals and Local Co-op capacity. 
  • Support and implement successful Agro marketing campaigns to support division goals. 
  • Participate in the coordination and planning of feasibility studies, new projects, and renovation projects.
  • Develop annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and business plans for Agro division that support the corporate goals. 
  • Be responsible for the enhancement and development of policies, procedures, and processes to support the division’s goals, key activities, and programs.
  • Participate in strategic planning, annual planning, and goal setting; and ensure marketing efforts support the Strategic Plan / Annual Plan / Budget.
  • Provide leadership to the Agro Division team, which includes team members and team leaders. Be responsible for the talent management cycle, including Orientation and Onboarding, Succession Planning, Performance Management, etc.Collaborate with Risk Management in providing for the health, safety, and security of all employees and operational assets.

Who you are:

  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a retail environment, experience specifically related to Agronomy. 
  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years experience leading technical, professional, or management employees. 
  • Hold a degree or diploma, with a preference for Business, Agriculture or Agri-Business or relevant experience. 
  • Experience in developing relationships with external and internal customers on complex issues and transactions. 
  • Ability to control operational costs, maximize operational efficiency and improve sales and growth margin. 
  • Have strong business acumen, including well-balanced strategic and tactical agility, and understanding of the financial aspects of running the division, thorough understanding of operations, marketing, human resources, and administration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (including Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Ability to adapt to new technology. 
  • Have excellent internal and external customer service skills. 
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills with a strong focus on employee engagement.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment. 
  • Hold a valid driver’s license. 

This position will require regular travel between locations in our trading areas, and some travel outside our trading area for business needs as required.
