The swiya of the shíshálh people lies between Queens Reach in Jervis Inlet and Howe Sound on the south coast of British Columbia. Historically there were four main settlements at kalpilin (Pender Harbour), ts’unay (Deserted Bay), xenichen (Jervis Inlet) and tewankw near Porpoise Bay.shíshálh Nation is committed to innovation in program and service delivery designed to assist our members and community to achieve greater independence, wellness and self-sufficiency. Foundational to our shared work is the protection, promotion and practice of shíshálh culture, language and laws within our swiya.
The shíshálh Nation is currently accepting applications for On-Call Receptionists. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring that the community members, clients and guests are greeted and directed to the needed services. You will serve various departments, including Community Services, Administration, Public Works and Education. As a full-service community, we offer a wide variety of services and amenities to the community members it serves.
The Candidate:
- Assist visitors by greeting, welcoming and directing them to the correct individual or department.
- Answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while presenting essential information when needed.
- Receive and sort daily mail/deliveries/couriers.
- Manage security by following procedures and controlling access.
- Complete other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning, etc.
- Must be available to fill in for vacations, medical leaves, and other absences (holidays are a popular time to be available. A lot of times, absences are unplanned, so the on-call receptionist must be prepared to work “spur of the moment.”
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and skillset as requested and needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalency.
- The Nation is willing to train the right candidate with the passion and ability to take the training.
- Strong customer service skills with demonstrated knowledge of appropriate skills for communicating, especially by phone, with individuals of all ages, especially the elderly population.
- Working Knowledge of standard office equipment, including computer, phone, fax, and photocopier.
- Previous knowledge working with multiline phones.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Resourceful and proactive, able to deal with issues as they arise.
- Capacity to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.
