Vancouver BC, Canada Simon Fraser University Full time

Who We Are

Join an exciting and entrepreneurial work environment, where you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the democratic process, decreasing polarization and creating positive social change. In this role you will lead a dynamic and talented team of coordinators and analysts as you collaboratively design and deliver engagement projects for a diverse array of clients.

About the Role

As the Associate Director responsible for the Social Enterprise at SFU's Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, you will design and deliver public participation projects funded by grants and government clients while maximizing social impact and ensuring ongoing financial sustainability. This position will combine the hard work and pragmatism of a consulting practice with the satisfaction of facilitating meaningful participation by those residents and groups most impacted by policy issues. Parking your own political beliefs will be essential as you hold space for others to express diverse viewpoints.

The ideal candidate will be relationship driven with strong team leadership and project management skills. Someone who embraces the fact that 'no day is the same' and thrives in a dynamic, client-focused work environment.

Please note: While the formal job description maintained by SFU HR for this position uses the title "Manager", the operational title for this position used for all public-facing communications is "Associate Director" to maintain consistency with comparable titles and positions at the Centre for Dialogue.

Qualifications

Master's degree in relevant discipline and eight years of relevant experience in areas such as stakeholder engagement, public participation, Indigenous engagement, resource and environmental management, public policy, project management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, professional certifications and experience.

  • Ability to recruit, train, and manage a team.
  • Excellent project management, budget planning, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of dialogue, public engagement, facilitation, and public policy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in designing and developing innovative public engagement initiatives and systems.
  • Knowledge of good practices for inter-cultural engagement, including cultural literacy in the norms of multiple communities in Metro Vancouver and Canada.

What We Offer

At SFU, our goal is to ensure our people are valued and supported by promoting a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development, as well as a safe and respectful workplace. We offer temporary employees who belong in the Administrative & Professional Staff Association (APSA):

  • An additional 7% pay in lieu of benefits & 8% vacation pay
  • Employer paid extended health & dental plans
  • Professional development funds (minimum contract period of 1 year)
  • Hybrid-work program for eligible positions

Additional Information

The assignment end date is September 5, 2025.

Please include your cover letter and resume in one attachment.
