Hospice Mississauga is a non-profit organization providing support to people and their families experiencing life limiting illness and end of life, serving over 1,500 individuals a year in Mississauga. Our mission is to provide compassion, support and advocacy that lessens the distress of terminal illness and loss on individuals, families, and the community. Our continuum of support programs includes hospice counselling, spiritual care, HUUG (Help Us
Understand Grief) Children’s program, Social Connections, health and wellness education, bereavement and will soon be grown to include in-patient hospice beds within our future Hospice Centre.
About the Opportunity:As our Development Officer you will design, develop, and implement our major gift program. Reporting to the Director of Fund Development, you will focus on revenue-generation of gift commitments starting at $5,000 +, connecting with existing and prospective donors to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and future gifts and always having the ability to connect the dots between the need and the donor’s interests and objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Establish, design, and execute a major donor program (gifts of $5,000 or more), including legacy giving, which will annually raise $500,000 +.
- Personally develop and manage a portfolio of major gift donors through all stages of the donor cycle.
- Actively seek out new major donor prospects and assess interest.
- Secure discovery meetings to establish or strengthen donor relationships.
- Complete donor calls and visits to identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and provide ongoing relationship management to a portfolio of donors.
- Where appropriate, consult with Senior Leadership to effectively cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships.
- Prepare related briefing notes and call reports, individualized solicitation proposals, presentations, and other correspondence.
- Provide ongoing stewardship and high touch experiences to our major donors, with a focus on reporting and donor retention.
- Maintain donor and prospect records including entering and maintaining solicitation and donor information, call reports, proposals, and referral tracking.
- Establish performance metrics for major gifts program monitor results and evaluate effectiveness; create standardized reports (in consultation with the Director of Fund Development); propose course correction when and as needed.
- Regularly updating the database (DonorPerfect) and actively use the software to support the cultivation of prospects, build donor relationships, and to analyze data for potential moves management;
- Assisting with tracking targets; KPI’s and other metrics/budgets;
- Collaborating with the staff, Board of Directors, and other volunteer committees to ensure ongoing communication and cohesion;
- Participating in building a culture of philanthropy and actively sharing the organization’s mission, vision, and programs, internally and externally.
- Providing exceptional customer service from start to finish by ensuring inquiries are responded to in a timely manner;
- Ensuring database records are accurate and updated with event related information such as registration, sponsorship, auction items and attendance;
- Maintaining positive relations and communications with donors, sponsors and stakeholders;
- A degree/diploma in fundraising would be ideal and/or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
- Experience building and implementing a major gifts program
- Experience with soliciting, cultivating and stewarding donors,
- Experience facilitating relationships at the $25,000 plus giving level,
- Well-connected within the Mississauga community an asset,
- Effective communication and time management skills;
- Knowledge of CRA tax-receipting guidelines;
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365, communications software, and a willingness to learn new software and systems;
- Experience with fundraising databases, specifically DonorPerfect would be an asset;
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required;
- Ability and means to travel for meetings; a valid driver’s license is required;
- Ability to speak other languages is an asset;
- Knowledge of the hospice palliative care sector is an asset.
