We are seeking Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Apprentices who are enrolled in a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice program as recognized by Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT), which includes Truck Transport or Off-Road certification. Primary duties include:

  • Work with a journeyperson technician performing planned maintenance work as well as diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Follow a preventative maintenance program on a large variety of equipment.
  • Enter work order information into the fleet management system.
  • Perform repairs and/or replace defective parts, components or systems, using both hand and power tools, measuring instruments and software programs.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalency (, GED).
  • Enrolled in a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice program as recognized by Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT), which includes Truck Transport or Off-Road certification.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Have or the ability to obtain a valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with an air brake endorsement (Q) to be completed within three months of hire (Fleet and Inventory may assist in obtaining).
  • An original driver's abstract no older than 60 days from all jurisdictions in which you have been a licensed driver in the past 2 years.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic programs and the ability to create clear and concise work order job notes and reports of completed work.
  • Journeyperson on-road or Journeyperson off-road certificate as recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions: Working in a shop environment with moving vehicles, parts, and tools, surrounding noise, chemicals, and vehicle fumes. Some work must be performed outdoors occasionally or within tight spaces requiring physically demanding postures. Ability to lift 20kg (45lbs) daily.
