Our fun and collaborative British Columbia team is looking for a Manager, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Locating based in Langley . The Manager will be responsible for carrying out utility mapping assignments for internal GeoVerra projects and grow the business to new external clients. At start, this position will require the individual to conduct their own field investigations as the Utility Locating team in British Columbia continues to grow.

The successful candidate must have excellent competency in searching utility records, utility field methodologies, processing data collection, writing reports, and excellent knowledge of ASCE-38-22 utility engineering standards.

This position has significant impact with external clients and internal team members, and therefore needs to be connected and live out the company's Vision, Mission and Values through actions and results.

What you will do:

  • Assist and perform field investigations from quality level C to B and complete Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), Mapping and Locating assignments for internal GeoVerra projects and external clients.
  • Manage client expectations, develop, and monitor project scope, budget, schedule, and quality control for SUE, mapping and Locating projects from the proposal stage through final deliverables.
  • Plan crew schedules and coordinate with other departments within GeoVerra to ensure the proper allocation of personnel and resources to meet project deadlines.
  • Monitor project and team performance. Forecast project outcomes and adjust where necessary to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Partner with internal and industry experts to grow the Utility Locating business in British Columbia.
  • Contact potential clients to establish rapport, build relationships and identify and develop strategies to pursue new business leads.
  • Identify and resolve client, project and/or team issues.
  • Ensure Quality, safety, legislation, and industry standards are met or exceeded.Develop and implement safety protocols and conduct regular inspections.
  • Facilitate an environment of high performance. Mentor and support the development of self and the project team members.

What you will bring:

  • Engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • P. Eng designation in good standing.
  • 5-10 years of previous project management experience in the Subsurface Utility Engineering, Mapping and Locating industry in British Columbia.
  • Skilled at searching utility records in British Columbia with a specific focus on the lower mainland and island regions.
  • Understanding of British Columbia’s cadastral survey system, and land survey records in public and crown lands.
  • Local knowledge related to utility locating methodologies in the lower mainland, islands, and other regions of British Columbia.
  • Expert knowledge of ASCE-38-22 Utility Engineering Standards.
  • Concrete scanning, coring & non-destructive testing, concrete corrosion mapping services, void and crack detection services, pipeline inspection services, or CCTV sewer investigations experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, MicoSurvey CAD software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail for processing data collection.
  • Experience with financial management.
  • Proven Business Development and client relationship focus.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to develop and grow the team.
  • Ability to designate all utilities using subsurface geophysical equipment, including RF Pipe and Cable Locators, Ground Penetrating Radar, and electromagnetic induction devices.
  • Effective time management and strong organizational skills while working to project deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clear driver's abstract required to drive GeoVerra vehicle to project sites.
