About the Role

We are working with a well‑established, full‑service mid‑sized law firm in downtown Toronto seeking a Senior Litigation Associate (8+ years) to join its highly regarded litigation group. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex, high‑stakes matters across a broad range of practice areas while working closely with experienced partners and mentoring junior lawyers.

You’ll play a central role in developing litigation strategy, managing sophisticated files, and delivering strong advocacy in a collaborative, client‑focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse caseload including commercial litigation, civil disputes, and/or regulatory matters
  • Develop and execute litigation strategies from inception through resolution, including trials and appeals
  • Draft and review pleadings, motion materials, factums, affidavits, and complex legal correspondence
  • Conduct advanced legal research and provide strategic advice to clients
  • Appear regularly on motions, discoveries, case conferences, pre‑trials, and hearings
  • Act as lead or second chair in trials and arbitrations, as appropriate
  • Oversee trial preparation including preparation of briefs, witness examinations, and overall case strategy
  • Liaise directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court staff
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, students, and clerks
  • Collaborate with partners on business development and client relationship management

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of post‑call experience in litigation at a reputable law firm
  • Strong expertise in Ontario civil procedure and court processes
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex litigation matters with increasing autonomy
  • Excellent drafting, research, and oral advocacy skills
  • Proven ability to manage files independently and lead litigation teams
  • Strong organizational, project management, and leadership capabilities
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience with commercial litigation, construction disputes, employment litigation, or professional liability
  • Trial and/or arbitration experience as lead or second chair
  • Familiarity with eDiscovery tools and litigation technology platforms
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior lawyers
  • Portable partial book of business or demonstrated interest in business development
