North American Freight Forwarding is a Canadian based company specializing in logistics services with specific strength in warehousing and distribution, LTL consolidations, expedites, full truckloads and specialized equipment service to and from Canada, United States and Mexico. As a key member of the Finance team, this position is responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting functions and related administrative activities. The Accounting Manager will mentor staff, establish ongoing priorities, assign responsibilities, and ensure that all parts of the company are appropriately supported with complete, accurate, timely and efficient operations.
Provide direction, coaching, leadership, and performance management for accounting staff.
Maintain staff training standards and complete regular reviews to ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting transactions including standard entries, cost allocations and accruals.
Regular review of Accounts Payable & Receivable to ensure company policies are being adhered to.
Preparation of monthly financial statements by completing analysis, explaining variances and other discrepancies, and ensuring work is performed in accordance with established timelines.
Analyze income statement accounts for variances and compliance with accounting policies.
Summarize account reconciliations, identify issues & trends, and report to executive management.
Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring business processes and policies, through the review and creation of department SOP's, and supporting documentation.
Work with Human Resources, IT, Project Managers, Accounts Payable & Receivable, other staff and management for training, support and exchanging information.
Assist Accounting staff during busy periods.
Oversee and/or contribute from time-to-time to Special Projects, and other duties as required.
Post-Secondary education in business accounting or finance, with an accounting designation in good standing.
Experience in the Transportation, freight forwarding, and logistics industry is an asset.

Knows when to ask for help and will keep an open mind to suggestions.
