The Health & Safety Specialist will design, develop, implement and monitor CBM Aggregates safety program activities to meet business targets and objectives. Oversees the management, implementation and coordination of the safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses; develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the company.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Working with key company stakeholders, design, develop, implement and monitor specific program elements that support overall health and safety management system to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  2. Design, develop, implement and monitor specific operational practices (culture) that support overall health and safety program to ensure regulatory compliance
  3. Serve as a subject matter expert on Health and Safety and provide leadership and consultative support to company executives, management and front line employees on all health and safety matters
  4. Partnering with Operations management to identify, schedule and facilitate educational and training requirements for all employee groups
  5. Oversees and manages the response to an investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety and health risks
  6. Partner with local management to implement corrective actions identified during audits, inspections, and supervisor investigations, etc.
  7. Review and sign accident investigation reports for all injuries/incidents and ensure corrective action recommendations are implemented
  8. Lead WSIB claims management process
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications:
  • College diploma or undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Health and Safety
  • CRSP or NCSO would be considered a strong asset
  • Four years direct experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in developing and managing occupational health and safety programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to work professionally with all levels of the company
  • Must exhibit strong judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and employees in different formats (one on one, training sessions, etc.)
  • Proficient MS Office user
  • Work experience in aggregate or ready mix industries is preferable but not required
  • Valid Driver's License and clean abstract as extensive automobile travel across Southern Ontario required
