Job Description:

Our client, a manufacturing company with its corporate Head Office located in Brampton with branch manufacturing facilities located in Southwestern Ontario is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Specialist. This will be an in-office role.

  1. Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  2. Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  3. Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  4. Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  5. Provide management with reports on WSIB incidents and injuries, lost time injuries
  6. Effectively manage return to work programs, working closely with the employee, his/her supervisors and WSIB to ensure the employee's safety and health
  7. Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and employees
  8. Implement any preventative actions as a result of an investigation
  9. Maintain the employee training matrix for training requirements, maintain records of all health and safety-related training and assist in the development of roll out programs
  10. Maintain MSDS documentation for all sites
  11. Lead an annual health and safety program audit to ensure the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programs
  12. Coordinate the purchase of PPE

Responsible for all company locations, travel between locations is required.

Skills Required:

Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

Excellent organizational and motivational skills

JHSC certification

Previous experience in extrusion or automotive or similar manufacturing environment is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualification Required:

Post-secondary school diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study

Minimum 3 years' experience with occupational health and safety management

Knowledge of WSIB processes and procedures, including WSIB claims management and related legislation

Knowledge of recognized Health and Safety best practices
