The Aquatics Director assumes responsibility for the daily operation of the pool including giving leadership to program excellence, assists in ensuring that the building and staff adhere to health and safety protocols, and that the Aquatics Staff Team are meeting YMCA of Greater Toronto regulations, National YMCA standards, Provincial (health regulation) Standards and SAM expectations with the goal of achieving 100% compliance. Director of Aquatic and Child, Youth & Family Programs also oversees and gives leadership to Children and Youth programs ensuring quality and variety of choices for families.
Develop, promote, plan, and implement all aquatics programs offered by the H&F facility.
Develop and monitor departmental budget and maintain accountability, responsibility, and control for the departmental fiscal goals; managing performance, including discipline; Conduct internal audits and ensure staff team and department comply with Qualifications (duty officers, lifeguards, and Aquatic Specialists), Trainings, Safety and Emergency Procedures, Operational Procedures, Lifeguard Stations and Rotations, Uniforms and Equipment, Administration, SAM - "YMCA Priority: S.A.Self-Appraisal Checklist, Quality of Service in Member Contact Area" for the pool, Role modeling - SAM excellence, Mission, Vision, Core Values.
Ensure department staff receive appropriate orientation and training; conduct WHMIS training.
Teach and/or provide support to the instructors who teach Bronze Star, Junior Lifeguard Club, Senior Lifeguard Club, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and RRS programs, etc.
Provide leadership to children and youth programs; Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
WHMIS training and Pool Operator's certification preferred.
Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members of all ages, staff, and volunteers.
Ability to speak multiple languages an asset.
Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills, including computer skills and a willingness to learn new computer programs.
Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers for seniors, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
