We are looking for a Director of Underwriting Compliance to join our team in our Vancouver office
As the Director of Underwriting Compliance, you will work closely with the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to manage underwriting operations, lead the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) renewal process, assist in the creation of new insurance products, and ensure full compliance with underwriting activities.

Your Day as Director of Underwriting Compliance
- Lead internal signoffs for all High Hazard industry segments across all lines of coverage.
- Drive training initiatives for new hires and junior underwriters to ensure they are well-equipped for success.
- Create and maintain comprehensive underwriting training manuals for the organization.
- Manage the Internal Peer Review Practice, providing quarterly summaries and recommendations to the CUO and regional leaders.
- Oversee external audits with insurers, respond to audit queries, and implement necessary changes based on audit results.
- Ensure the review and implementation of policy wordings in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Lead the renewal process for binding authorities to ensure the company maintains adequate capacity.
- Collaborate with the CUO on developing new capacity and products to address emerging market opportunities.
- Support marketing and relationship-building efforts with insurers, collaborating with the CUO.
- Travel with the CUO to key global locations, such as London and Toronto, to build relationships with insurer partners.
- Represent the company at industry association meetings and events, contributing to strategic partnerships and strengthening market presence.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 10 years of technical experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) underwriting, with a strong background in compliance management and underwriting operations.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with business plan creation and development.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support marketing efforts and industry relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingualism is an asset, but not required.
- Experience in the construction industry or a related specialty would be highly valued, but is not a requirement.
- Team player adaptable to a changing environment.
- Enthusiastic, reliable and has excellent sense of organization, professionalism and discretion.
The expected salary for this role ranges from $100,000 to $160,000. Annual salary will be determined by factors including prior experience, location, business segment, and relevance of the candidate’s skills to the role.
