Senior Transmission Line Engineer

The Senior Transmission Line Engineer should be able to work with the drafting group to create construction drawings using CAD tools. They should also be responsive to the needs of the client and project requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design the following:
  • Various foundation types for 12kV to 500kV overhead transmission line structures (direct embed, drilled pier, spread footer, pile, vibratory caisson, micropile, Tubex, grillage)
  • Lattice steel towers (arrangements and loading)
  • Pole structures (wood, tubular steel, lattice steel, pre-stressed concrete, fiber reinforced, laminated wood) (arrangements and loading)
  • Guy anchors
  • 34.5kV to 500kV steel substation structures
  • Various foundation types for substation structures
  • Prepare grading and drainage design for substations
  • Design retaining walls (soldier piles, rock anchors, grouting)
  • Develop design drawings for stormwater and other environmental permits
  • Analyze geotechnical, survey, mapping, and materials-testing data to complete work assignments using computer modeling software
  • Assess the environmental impact and risk connected to projects
  • Deliver civil engineering designs and optimization in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and industry practices
  • Ensure designs meet project specifications, design requirements, and design legal guidelines and health and safety requirements
  • Work with the Drafting Group to create construction drawings using CAD tools
  • Develop construction and material specifications
  • Develop bills of materials for civil equipment and materials
  • Provide input for proposal and bidding purposes
  • Develop and utilize QA/QC processes
  • Manage multiple projects including day-to-day management of assigned projects
  • Plan, define project tasks, schedule, and deliver on-time execution of civil scope of work and project deliverables
  • Discuss project requirements with the client while delivering value engineering
  • Work closely with the RRC Project Managers and Civil, Substation, and Transmission Engineering Group Managers in the successful execution of work
  • Work with Minnesota-based structural group and support wind turbine foundation analysis and design
  • Be responsive to the needs of the client and project requirements

Additional Duties As Required

  • 10% travel is expected and can include overnight stays for several days
  • Jobsite visits require ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain, including bending, stooping, twisting, and climbing
  • Sitting is involved for most of the day while in the office, but a raised desk workstation is available
  • Minimal lifting requirement of 20 pounds or less on an infrequent basis

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering consulting and design experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from ABET accredited university
  • Licensed and registered Civil Professional Engineer (California preferred)
  • Understanding of ASCE, ANSI, ASTM, NESC, and G.O. 95 Codes & Standards
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, LPILE, MFAD, RISA, STAAD, MathCAD, PLS-CADD, TOWER, POLE preferred
  • Experience in permitting support, engineering, and construction
  • Wind and solar civil engineering consulting experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with emphasis on client service
  • Self-starter with independent judgment
  • Multi-tasking capabilities with ability to change focus quickly
  • Possess valid U.S. state driver’s license
