The Business Development Bank of Canada is in the process of updating its infrastructure to meet growing telecommunications and data protection needs. The implementation of new technologies is required to accelerate innovation and time-to-market by promoting IT workload resilience, agility and consolidation. We are looking for a candidate with a background in telecom infrastructure, to join our team and be part of this exciting transformation.
Reporting to the Infrastructure Technology Director, the Telecommunications Technical Lead acts as a leader and specialist in the field of telecommunications in the organization.
They provide the necessary technical infrastructure guidance for the development of new infrastructure technologies and system requirements for telecommunications. Working closely with architects, IT service management and infrastructure specialists, the Telecommunications Technical Lead leads and ensures that architectural plans are aligned with the capacity and vision of the infrastructure, providing detailed design documents. He or she oversees the process of developing solutions from a technical perspective and provides complex troubleshooting capabilities when needed. He or she has skills that make him or her an expert in telecommunications infrastructure, providing technical guidance and mentorship to telecommunications administrators.
Planning, design and management of telecommunications infrastructure for data centers and various clouds;
Monitor his/her field of expertise and act as an expert by providing advice and support to BDC specialists regarding telecommunications infrastructure;
Provide last-level support on technical, operational and infrastructure equipment issues;
Responsible for establishing non-functional requirements for new infrastructure components (such as security, reliability, performance, maintainability, scalability, and ease of use);
Maintain and build automation and infrastructure-as-code scripts using the right tools;
Develop the best infrastructure solution, including detailed design, to solve business problems, while ensuring efficiency (through automation) and stability (through monitoring);
Act as a telecommunications expert and provide expert advice in the introduction of new technology versus the use of existing technology;
Oversee the solution construction process from a technical perspective to ensure compliance with the architecture and detailed design;
Lead a multi-disciplinary team in fact-finding, diagnosing and troubleshooting complex issues/incidents, including engaging suppliers on technical issues.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to specialists related to telecommunications infrastructure;
Strong technical leadership and innovative problem-solving skills in emergency situations and with ambiguous or sparse information;
Excellent ability to write clear, concise and rigorous documents, including high-level technical diagrams and business case support documents;
English and French, spoken and written;
University degree in computer science;
A minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of telecommunications;
Specialist in a company's complex telecommunications infrastructure;
High-density Wi-Fi network: 802.1ac Wave2, Cisco WLC, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Meraki Wi-Fi;
Quality of Service (QoS);
Monitoring: CA Spectrum, DX NetOps;
Automation tools: Terraform;
Cisco Licensing & Support: Cisco Smart Licensing, Cisco Smartnet;
Fibre Optic Network (Asset);
Cloud Automation, Networking and Security AWS, Azure, GCP;
