What you will be doing

  • Leading CNL’s real estate and property management portfolio, including master planning, space allocation, and stewardship of common amenities and services, with a long term focus (5+ years).
  • Serving as the point of contact for AECL for of the real estate portfolio. Liaison with and supply data to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) assessment in support of AECL efforts to interact with the Corporation of the Town of Deep River
  • Preparing briefing notes, studies, analyses, reports, data, and presentations related to the entirety of CNL’s real estate portfolio
  • Translating the CNL real estate strategy as based on key planning documents (e.g., 10-Year Plan) into real-estate focused plans (e.g., Site Master Plan) and tactical plans for site real property assets
  • Developing and implementing institutional processes, guidelines, and standards to ensure site planning efforts align with the CNL’s established missions, objectives and strategic plans, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Leading, organizing and coordinating the CNL's efforts to analyze, develop, maintain and implement campus master plans for CNL’s main campus and other CNL owned property, as needed
  • Providing direction for the ongoing review and maintenance of processes, procedures, standards, data and information related to the CNL’s management of the real estate portfolio and overall site configuration control in accordance with CNL’s governance and site operation licenses

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field of study or College degree equivalent
  • Relevant professional certification designation: Registered Professional Planner (RPP), Certified Planner (AICP), Certified Urban Planner (CUP), LEED Accredited Professional in Neighborhood Development (LEEP AP ND), American Planning Association (APA), and Certified Real Estate Development Professional (CREDP).
  • Other certifications will be considered if they require comparable education, experience, and knowledge testing
  • Ten years or more of demonstrated experience in property / site management and strategic planning at a government, educational, health or science complex of similar size
  • Ten years in leadership roles with activities of a similar nature.
  • Ten years of engagement with external sponsors, clients, municipalities, organizations, or stakeholders.
  • Ten years of experience in reviewing issues/topics and developing and writing plans, reports, presentation packages, briefing notes, annotated agendas and meeting minutes for Senior Leadership/external clients.
  • Five years of experience managing related services and/or service contracts.
  • Five years of experience organizing, planning, coordinating, tracking, prioritizing, reporting and assessing progress against plans and budgets ($M)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that enable business relationships and foster open and honest dialogue, particularly when addressing customer needs and preferences;
  • Resolves significantly complex/specialized/broad-impacting issues across organizations through analysis, data, negotiation, and collaboration;
  • Identifies and fosters broadly impactful innovations and improvements that effect the real property, management of site configuration control and the long term growth strategy for efficient land usage across CNL sites;
  • Demonstrated impeccable ethics and integrity;
  • Demonstrated skill in engaging with and maintaining relationships with external municipalities, agencies, and stakeholders
  • Able to plan, facilitate, and coordinate meetings;
  • Perform a variety of duties, changing tasks without loss of efficiency or composure;
  • Serves in a leadership role when coordinating effort associated with assembling data and reports from multiple stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment and with staff at various levels of the organization.
  • Identify, negotiate, and manage service and real estate property contracts in a government environment
  • Provides work instruction, feedback, development planning, training, and mentorship to team members.
  • Establishes criteria and evaluates performance of the team.
  • Knowledge of how to safely conduct work at a government facility (e.g. Integrated Work Control or similar process
  • Advanced proficiency in municipal and provincial land use planning and understanding of applicability to federally owned lands
  • Understanding of space planning principles, practices, and policies common in similar markets or complexes
  • Understanding of facility information systems/geographic information systems
  • Service and lease contract management including scope of work development, specifications, oversight and administration
  • Knowledge of facility / institutional processes and systems particularly document management systems, Management Systems, and facility and geographic information systems
  • Sound understanding of the interaction of governmental organizations, programs, operations, projects and supporting groups delivering institutional programs
  • Knowledge and experience with Canadian nuclear regulatory standards and practices and their applicability to nuclear site operating licenses
  • Knowledge and experience interacting with community stakeholders including government bodies (municipal, provincial, federal) and Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge and experience of steering committee operations within an institutional environment
  • Knowledge and experience with collective agreements within institutional environments
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location of Work - Hybrid

  • This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River site, however, subject to the terms of this agreement, the primary work location will be remote. The role will require some regular and frequent attendance at the Chalk River site. The schedule and frequency will be determined by discussions with the manager as well as internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
