Systems Engineer - Remote Access is a key member of the Infrastructure & Operations team, responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of Citrix virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and associated systems. This role requires hands-on expertise in a large enterprise setting with proven ability to efficiently provide complete systems setup, lifecycle management and operational problem solving, while maintaining the operational stability, performance, and security of the Citrix environment. This role requires a solid understanding of on-premises infrastructure with the ability to adapt to evolving cloud technologies. The role requires close collaboration with other I&O teams, application support teams, and security teams to deliver a seamless end-user experience, maintain high availability and performance standards
Install, configure, support and monitor Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop), Citrix ADC (NetScaler), Citrix Workspace, and related products.
Manage Citrix policies, profiles, and user access.
Administer Citrix environments, ensuring performance, availability, and scalability of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and application delivery services.
Perform regular health checks and capacity planning for the Citrix environment.Monitor Citrix environment health and usage patterns, optimize performance, and apply patches, updates, and hotfixes as needed.
Ensure disaster recovery procedures are in place and regularly tested.
Maintain up-to-date documentation on configurations, changes, troubleshooting steps, and processes.
Provide training and guidance to internal teams and users on Citrix tools, applications, and best practices.
Plan, test, and execute Citrix system upgrades and migrations as necessary, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Perform routine server maintenance tasks, including patching, backups, and performance monitoring.
Commission and decommission physical and virtual servers.
Manage server hardware and software inventories.
Collaborate with other I&O teams on infrastructure projects and upgrades.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
Monitor server and application performance using monitoring tools.
Escalate complex problems to senior engineers or vendors.
Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support.
Implement and maintain security measures for the Citrix environment, including access controls, authentication, and encryption.
Collaborate with the security team to ensure compliance with security policies and standards.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for the Citrix environment, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
~ 7+ years of experience in systems administration, with a strong focus on Windows Server environments.
~5+ years of hands-on experience administering Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
~ Technical Skills:
~ Proficiency in Windows Server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022).
~ Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy management.
~ Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Experience managing and configuring various ITOM tools for monitoring and reporting on system performance, SLA and Capacity Management, identifying issues and trends (I,e. SCOM, OpManager , ControlUp and Goliath) with a focus on Citrix and Windows server environments.
