SBM is seeking a Structural Engineer, Project Lead in our Structural Small Buildings Division in our Kitchener office.The Candidate will be responsible forassisting with structural analysis and design for a variety of building types, including single-family and multi-residential dwellings (included in Part 9 of the OBC). This candidate will work as the Project Lead and with other engineers, engineering trainees, and technologists to complete structural analysis and designs for new and existing buildings/components, as well as assisting with development and review of drawing packages. They will be required to seal their own work, as well as that of designers under their direction. Field work, including structure evaluation and/or construction review, will also be required.
Company Summary: SBM is an established multi-disciplinary Planning, Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering firm that utilizes a team first, collaborative approach to building engineering. SBM has offices in London and Kitchener, providing engineering services to a variety of private and public sector clients across Southwestern Ontario. The firm employs over 120 engineers, engineering trainees, technologists, technicians, planners, and administrative personnel.
Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with structural engineering (specifically wood frame construction)
Preparation of structural engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design requirements
Set up AutoCAD drawings as per the company’s standard
Prepare AutoCAD drawings from sketches, mark-ups and/or design
Manage project tasks within assigned time and budget constraints
Maintain familiarity with current techniques, codes, and standards to sustain and improve technical skills
Coordinate with other team members on various projects at the same time to achieve project milestones
Accept technical guidance from colleagues or senior staff
Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
Coordinate structural aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings
When required, complete site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
~ Other tasks as assigned by Senior Engineers/Techs, Team Lead or Division Manager

Bachelor’s in Structural Engineering from an accredited Canadian University or equivalent required
~ Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.4+ years of experience in Structural Engineering related to design of buildings
~ Experience with wood frame construction
~ Proficient with AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams); Experience with Woodworks considered an asset
~ Strong knowledge of construction materials and practices or construction work experience considered an asset
~ Ability to coordinate multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
~ Access to vehicle for site review/inspections
