We are looking for a 6 month-Temporary Full-time Helpline Counsellor to work in our Shelter program.This is a union position working 35 hours per week Saturday to Tuesday from 9:00am to 6:45pm.

We are looking for people who want to be part of changing the conversation about domestic violence and abuse. We have evolved from our beginnings as the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter. We are relentless in our commitment to our clients, our communities and each other. We are looking for a 6 month-Temporary Full-time Helpline Counsellor to work in our Shelter program.
This is a union position working 35 hours per week Saturday to Tuesday from 9:00am to 6:45pm.
As a Helpline Counsellor, telephone skills are you’re biggest asset. You will provide telephone crisis counselling, assessment, and intervention to assist clients who are seeking guidance and resources.
In addition, you will respond effectively to all requests for admission, assessing the service needs of those seeking assistance, referring to other agencies as required, and arranging intake procedures through the Helpline.
Being open and willing to hear and listen to others is one of the biggest assets you can bring to our team.
Diploma in Social Sciences or related filed.
A minimum of two (2) years’ previous experience in any of the following areas is required: domestic violence, Children’s Services, homelessness or addictions/mental health issues.
Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English.
A second language would be an asset.
Effective January 1st, 2022 being fully vaccinated against Covid-19 is a condition of employment.
In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
