Deep Sky is at the forefront of combating climate change through innovative carbon removal technologies. Our mission is to develop and implement scalable solutions for direct air and ocean capture systems. We are embarking on an ambitious project, Deep Sky Labs, our pilot and demonstration facility designed to test the most promising direct air capture technologies for scale up. To achieve this milestone, we are seeking an experienced Site Director to lead the operations and maintenance of this state-of-the-art facility.

As Site Director, Deep Sky Labs you will play a vital operating role in delivering and managing our state-of-the-art direct air capture facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong track-record in operating and managing large-scale demonstration plants in the heavy industrial sector, such as chemical processes, with a passion for environmental sustainability and technological innovation.

In this role you will work closely with the Chief Carbon Scientist and Head of Engineering to:
  • Lead the setup and operational management of the pilot facility, ensuring all systems function within set parameters.
  • Hire, train, and manage a team of operators and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation of health and safety protocols throughout the facility.
  • Coordinate and manage the execution of 10 direct air capture pilot tests, including scheduling, resource allocation, and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize DAC processes.
  • Prepare and manage the facility's operational budget, ensuring cost-effective resource use.
  • Maintain compliance with all governmental regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Report on facility progress and challenges for scale-up, providing strategic recommendations to senior management
An ideal candidate has:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental or similar. Advanced degrees ( M.Sc or Ph.D) and professional engineering designation ( P.Eng ) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in operational management within a technical or industrial setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in managing pilot plants or industrial operations, preferably in the environmental technology or chemical processing industries.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex processes.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building and leading effective teams.
  • Commitment to upholding high safety and environmental standards.
