The Werklund School of Education, Undergraduate Programs, at the University of Calgary invites applications for term certain Sessional Instructor positions for Winter 2025 . 
A completed doctorate in education, but professionals with a master's degree will also be considered
Five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary/secondary level preferred
Ability to work collaboratively with school and community members
Recent experience as a partner teacher or school liaison preferred 
Knowledge and understanding of the undergraduate program in Education and commitment to inquiry-based teaching and learning will also be considered assets for these positions

How Children Learn to Write [Web-Based]
Examines how young children learn to write through their world of daily experiences.
Supporting Children’s Writing [Web-Based]
Students will explore strategies for promoting writing development through integrated experiential learning opportunities.
Language and Literacy, Learning in the Classroom [In-Person]
An introduction to perspectives on the way children and adolescents become "literate", examining language and literacy from a development perspective and children's literature from a genre perspective.
Theories and Applications [In-Person and Web-Based Sections]
The application of these theories will be examined using examples that demonstrate and exemplify individual learning.
Note: EDUC 445 lectures and labs are routed by Early Childhood Education/Elementary teachables, Secondary teachables, or Community-Based K-12 teachables. Diversity in Learning [In-Person and Web-Based Sections]
Includes key topics in diversity education from a critical social justice perspective. Students will consider the multiple and contested ways in which diversity in learning has been conceived, implemented and evaluated in schools.
Includes key topics related to assessment to help students develop professional competencies in relation to the philosophy, theory and pedagogical application of assessment practices for K-12 education.
Note: EDUC 456 sections are routed by Early Childhood Education/Elementary teachables or Secondary teachables. 
Introduction on enacting pedagogy in each of the teachable subject areas in the program and pedagogical content knowledge in each area. short-term design of learning for deep understanding of learners.

Field Experience II [Practicum – Calgary and Area Placements]
This block field experience will have major focus on the complexities of individual learning. Prospective teachers will have the opportunity to follow individual students through various classrooms within their assigned schools under the guidance of their university field instructors and partner school leadership teams.
Comprehensive School Health and Wellness [In-Person and Web-Based Sections]
A healthy school community supports the wellness of all its members and healthy students make better learners. Within the broader evidence-based comprehensive school health framework, this course provides the theoretical foundations, research base, community resources, and experiential learning to create the capacity for future teachers to be health champions.
Professional Development and Life-Long Learning [In-Person and Web-Based Sections]
Acts as a capstone course, enabling integration of theoretical understandings and field experiences. Students will be introduced to an iterative, knowledge building cycle that considers how student need informs teacher professional learning, builds teacher knowledge and skill and improves student outcomes. Participation in this cycle will strengthen understanding of the adaptive expertise needed to deepen teaching competence.
Field Experience IV [Practicum – Calgary and Area Placements]
Students will deepen their engagement in the role of teacher in a school setting under the guidance of a partner teacher, university field experience instructor and the school leadership team.
Field Experience III in the Fall term. Complex Classrooms [Web-Based]
The First Year Teacher [Web-Based]
Students are provided with the opportunity to examine and consider the navigation of the common challenges and successes associated with the first year of teaching in the K-12 school system.
Child Development from K-12 [Web-Based]
An examination of the science of child and youth development from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and brain development that accounts for the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development across K-12.
