General Contractor

Civil contractor focused on infrastructure projects across Canada

Large-sized civil contractor seeking experienced and business-minded Project Coordinator for civil projects in Vancouver.

Compensation: $50-60k with potential for overtime and benefits, depending on experience level and education. The Client is a progressive company offering employees a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

About you:

You will be key lead ensuring compliance to all project documentation needs and to ensure project process controls are in place to allow for revenue capture, complete cost control and safety compliance. Hold a key integral role in maintaining the capability of the GVA operations organization to increase construction revenue and capability. This includes actively participating in building a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment (ACE) enabling continuous improvement.

Key team player for one or more projects working closely with cross-functional project teams including Superintendents, Estimators, Project Managers, Sub-contractors and clients throughout the project lifecycle. Projects are mainly heavy civil. Role itself could entail being based onsite or head office pending on work type and volume. Involvement in the following functions of the business unt: Paving, Milling, Grading and Curb and Gutter

Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination (~80%):

  • Create job specific safety orientations if required;
  • Creating and updating schedules;
  • Completion of QC plan, environmental plan, safety plan and hydrant permits
  • Completing BC One Calls
  • Track and ensure all revenue is being accounted daily;
  • Track and ensure all extra work is preapproved and CO are in place daily;
  • Process daily field paperwork;
  • Quantity take offs and site verifications
  • Creating As built drawings;
  • Assist in correspondence with owner or general contractor;
  • Assist in expediting invoicing and receiving progresses from owner;
  • Identify any sub-contractors that are restricted (Red/Amber) in Avetta and work with Operations/Contract Admin to rectify the restriction
  • Site visits are performed on a regular basis to document the progress and quality of construction activities.
  • Relationships: Interacting with project managers, superintendents ,foremen, owner, engineers, general contractor, subcontractors, and other sub trades
  • Subcontractors – works with the Contract Administrator to ensure contracts are established, purchase orders created and contractor safety management compliance

Business Process Coordination (~20%)

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas
  • Fleet GPS – Setting up GPS, monitor driver metrics and haul data, comparing estimates to actual, monitor driver metrics and haul data, comparing estimates to actual
  • Unit Price/Quantity Verification – Works with customers prior to billing to ensure alignment of volumes and measures, ensures accurate information is passed to JCAs for invoicing
  • Operational Excellence Projects – Works on specialized projects as defined by the Operations Manager

Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas

  • Undertake scheduled job observations or contractor inspections in accordance with communicated schedules

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Diploma from Technical Institute in Engineering, or
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.SC) in Civil Engineering

Experience and skillset

  • Great problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and great organization skills
  • Good knowledge of paving, asphalt and construction industry
  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing priorities
  • High capacity of working under pressure and stress
  • Ability to effectively present information in writing, and respond to questions from a group of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures, amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Computer proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications
