Tourmaline Oil Corp. is a senior Canadian crude oil and natural gas exploration and production company. We are focused on long-term growth through an aggressive exploration, development, and acquisition program in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.

We are currently looking for an intermediate to senior contract Systems Analyst to support our Data Historian systems. The ideal candidate would have 5 to 7 of experience working with time-series data, including data visualisation and dashboard building. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the candidate will collaborate with other Data Analysts, Engineers, and Operations teams. Experience with Canary or PI visualisation tools is considered an asset. This is a full-time in office position with periodic travel to our field locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the administration, configuration and maintenance of the data historian systems. Coordinate system enhancements by collaborating with vendors, application developers, engineers, and operational users.
  • Develop and maintain asset views within the historian, providing insights into asset status and efficiency for both real-time monitoring and historical analysis.
  • Collaborate on the architecture, design and implementation of the Canary data historian, including developing standard process development, QA, and system monitoring initiatives.
  • Carry out SCADA integrations, data quality analysis and development of asset models in Canary Historian.
  • Support multiple departments in interfacing data analytics or other software with the data historian.

  • Work closely with other Systems Analysts to implement automated processes for managing properties for asset models.
  • Design and plan system enhancements, coordinating efforts with vendors, application owners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement modifications to improve operational efficiency and assist with development of related standards and processes.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Canary-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and support integrations with SCADA systems:
    Cygnet, Zedi, FactoryTalk, XSPOC, Ignition, and others.
  • Set-up new integrations with site HMIs, collaborate with historian team/users/SCADA admins for naming tags, adding properties and developing asset models.
  • Develop and manage custom interfaces with external data sources such as XSPOC and Zedi.
  • Preform upgrades and testing of Canary and SCADA collectors.
  • Build and manage views, events, calculations, Axiom displays and notifications to support specific use cases.
  • Manage Axiom security configuration to segregate users where required (eg external users).
  • Monitor and manage Zedi integration with Canary, data flow issues, add handle sensor type/location addition and property normalization for tags.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of Prodview imports, property additions, and work with FDC team on validation and property naming for new imports.
  • Manage the Cygnet collector, facility/UDC and properties configuration. Monitor for inactive tags and ensure efficient data collection.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configuration, troubleshooting procedures and best practices.

Experience

  • Experience with data historian in the oil & gas industry, including development of calculations, dashboards/reports, notifications, events and asset models, as well as the configuration of data collectors and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of oil & gas data and SCADA systems including use of OPC DA, OPC UA, and MQTT for collecting data.
  • Experience implementing and supporting software and systems.
  • Experience with SQL Server, including scripting views and stored procedures would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of MQTT, C#;
    Python;
    Postman & Web API, and PowerShell would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with Cygnet, Zedi, Ignition and FactoryTalk would be an asset.
  • Experience working with BI/reporting/analytics tools that utilize historian data such as Power BI, SSRS and Spotfire is advantageous.
