Assistant Vice President, Credit Ratings, Independent Review Function

Position Summary:
Morningstar DBRS is seeking an AVP for the Independent Review Function (IRF). The role is based in Toronto.
Reporting to the SVP, Lead and Head of IRF, the individual will lead and/or support as analyst on a portfolio of Structured Finance and Corporate methodologies as well as coordinate multiple processes and projects across the IRF.
The successful candidate will be part of an experienced team of professionals responsible for the review and validation of all Morningstar DBRS rating methodologies across all sectors and geographies. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about credit and the financial markets, gain exposure to very senior members of Morningstar DBRS and be involved in high profile, strategic projects.
The analyst will be required to have a good knowledge of Corporate analysis and fundamental risk drivers or Structured Finance; strong analytical, organizational and writing skills; heightened attention for detail and an inquisitive mind. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic environment with multiple activities occurring at the same time.

Responsibilities:
- Conducting independent ongoing review and validation of a portfolio of rating methodologies as per IRF’s policy and procedures in the capacity of primary and/or backup IRF analyst:
- Become familiar with existing methodology and past IRF review material;
- Interact with Methodology Development Team and review methodology proposal as well as support material provided;
- Independently research, collect and compile support material as appropriate;
- Facilitate and coordinate IRF discussion groups and IRF committee process;
- Coordinate approval from/notification to the Board, where applicable;
- Maintain records as applicable;
- Successfully meet the target review date;
- Cooperating with other IRF analysts to the review of their assigned methodologies;
- Conducting and cooperating in the independent review and validation of new and materially changed methodologies;
- Discussing and contributing to the assessment of materiality of the changes;
- Working with project planning managers, methodology development team and other stakeholders;
- Representing DBRS Morningstar with external stakeholders;
- Communicate with the regulator, as needed and appropriate;
- Participate in key industry conferences as instructed;
- Creating, populating and delivering management and Board reporting;
- Aiding other members of the IRF group with planning, managing and execution of IRF activities.
- Coordinating IRF Committee process for a selected portfolio of methodologies:
- Send invites to all IRF analysts and ensure the required quorum has accepted;
- Request and maintain track of delegation approvals;
- Take and record minutes of the discussion. Circulate minutes for comments.
- Managing the Methodology Review Committee process for a selected portfolio of methodologies:
- Send invites to members of the Methodology Review Committee of the Board and ensure the required quorum has accepted;
- Store committee material in the external repository system and circulate link;
- Circulate and store minutes of the discussion.
- Creating or reviewing, and delivering ad hoc reporting to regulators, and supporting the interactions with Compliance and Data groups.
- Assisting IRF team members in working alongside Risk Management and Strategic Programs group to help guide project execution.
- Supporting the SVPs/Head of IRF in responding to queries from other groups (such as Audit, Compliance and Quality Assurance).
- About 5 years or more of credit rating agency, finance, consulting or related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, law, engineering, mathematics, statistic, econometrics or related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Power Point and Word; Coding and/or database skills a plus.
- Ability to manage own work across several work streams on complex/collaborative projects.
- Strong ability to work with large data sets with the ability to synthesize such data.
- Experience with business process improvement analysis, requirements development and documentation.
- Experience working directly with business users and communicating with IT teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including business line leaders, ratings analysts and the methodology/model development teams.
- Highly efficient and effective in sometimes stressful, fast paced environments.
