Senior Estimator – Industrial & Commercial Construction

Greater Vancouver, BC

Our client, an innovative, customer-centric regional leader in the industrial and commercial construction field, has partnered with Cameron Lappin of the Lock Search Group to find an experienced Senior Estimator to join their Greater Vancouver team. Your expertise in construction estimation will play a pivotal role in guiding overarching strategies, molding the profitability and sustained success of the organization. Our client is looking for an experienced construction professional to round out their leadership team.

**This role takes on team leadership, and has a clear path to a Chief Estimator position; and as such, will have an immediate seat at the executive table to support our clients direction and strategy as they continue to scale and grow.**

Reporting to the VP of Construction the  Senior Estimator will serve as a crucial link connecting estimation, pre-construction, project management, and executive team, you will cultivate synergy and cooperation, guaranteeing that our clients estimation practices harmonize seamlessly with organizational goals. Utilizing expertise and leadership skills, the incoming Senior Estimator will advocate for the integration of cutting-edge technologies and optimal methodologies, thereby boosting efficiency and elevating competitiveness within the ever-evolving construction sector. This role will involve overseeing a team of estimators, managing bid proposals, analyzing project needs, and formulating cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and guide the estimating team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Establish strategic objectives and targets for the estimating department in line with company-wide goals.
  • Coach and nurture junior estimators, aiding in their growth within industrial and specialty construction estimation.
  • Coordinate with various departments such as project management, engineering, and procurement to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Oversee the creation of comprehensive cost estimates for industrial and specialty construction ventures, encompassing material, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses.
  • Conduct meticulous analysis of project plans, specifications, and related documents to ascertain scope and risks.
  • Solicit, assess, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids to incorporate into project estimates.
  • Craft precise and competitive bid proposals and presentations for clients, emphasizing value-added services and competitive strengths.
  • Collaborate with project management and business development teams to devise pricing strategies for market competitiveness.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in estimating technology.
  • Implement advanced estimating software tools to streamline processes and boost accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain databases of historical cost data and industry benchmarks to support reliable estimating.
  • Utilize digital technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) for accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimations.
  • Work with IT and software providers to tailor estimating solutions for industrial and specialty construction projects.

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of progressive pre-construction experience in Construction Estimating from the commercial and industrial sectors 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Post Secondary Education with a focus on Engineering or Architecture (C.E.T comparable qualifications)
  • PENG accreditation is advantageous.
  • Proficient in interpreting and comprehending construction blueprints and documentation.
  • Strong grasp of job cost fundamentals related to provided designs or schematics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in computer applications, notably MS Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with estimating software applications.
  • Documented organizational prowess, capable of managing time efficiently and strategizing to meet multiple deadlines in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Effective collaboration skills within team settings.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and readiness to travel as needed.
  • Adaptability to flexible work schedules when necessary to meet project deadlines.
