The Opportunity:

The Product Development / Research and Development Manager will lead a small team of Product Developers and R&D Coordinators dedicated to developing food ingredient systems and edible film products for the North American market.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, you will work alongside cross functional teams including Procurement, Operations, Quality/Regulatory, and Sales/Marketing.

Your work spans innovation, technical development, cost optimization, and technical sales support for all active R&D projects.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical research, manage project timelines, maintain costs, and motivate team members in a dynamic and fast-paced R&D department
  • Internal and external stakeholder management, partnering with sales and marketing teams to develop and execute an internal innovation roadmap
  • Deliver and support external innovation projects, interfacing directly with key customer accounts on site and at customer facilities
  • Lead cross-functional project teams in researching and identifying newmarket opportunities
  • Ensure successful transition of R&D projects from ideation through commercialization process
  • Provide technical support to team across variety of finished products including meat processing, batter & breading, seasoning/flavour development, vegan and vegetarian systems, and more
  • Provide leadership support for direct reports, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, support, and professional development
  • Conduct market research exploring food science technology, intellectual property, trend research, new product launches, and product life span
  • Support SeniorManagement with sales reports and special projects for North American and Global markets
  • Ensure quality and regulatory standards are met for all existing and new projects
  • Establish and maintain KPI’s for successful R&D department

Ideal Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary education in Food Science, Science & Business, or related field.
  • Master’s degree is a bonus.
  • 2+ years’ experience people management experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Willingness to go beyond expectations, learn new skills, and take on new challenges & responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated customer service, excellent problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurial mentality.
  • Valid Driver's Licence and access to car with willingness to drive on regular basis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with experience in R&D/Nutrient Data Software
  • SAP experience would be an asset.
