The Accounting Manager reports to the VP, Finance and plays a key senior role leading the finance division of our rapidly growing organization. You will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all operational accounting functions and will add value and gain efficiencies through continual improvements. This senior leadership role will manage both our Canadian and US finance divisions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Review and analyze bi-weekly cash flow forecasts.
  • Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Review monthly Dashboard for the leadership team and advisory board, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Lead month-end processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices and resolution of any financial issues.
  • Lead annual year-end process with external accountants.
  • Prepare management and discussion analysis on a quarterly basis.
  • Review EFTs accurately and efficiently.
  • Oversea and review billing process to ensure accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivables including collection efforts.
  • Review GST/PST returns, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Manage corporate tax installments and balances with relevant tax authorities.
  • Review RFPs and liaise with insurance brokers to maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Manage company’s credit cards.
  • Provide support to operations teams, including updating customer portals and preparing divisional reports and analysis.
  • Provide weekly scorecard to the operations team and provide analysis to show trends for utilization and collections.
  • Review quarterly reporting for the bank to ensure compliance.
  • Complete all corporate filings accurately and on time, including US annual reports for different states.
  • Work closely with law team in USA and Canada to ensure legal compliance.
  • Handle paperwork related to incoming and departing shareholders, and address shareholder queries.
  • Identify and propose process improvements within finance and operations.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with external stakeholders such as banks, accountants, lawyers, and insurance brokers.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, providing guidance and support for professional development.
  • University degree and Chartered Accounting Designation (CPA or CMA).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including 3 years of management in a financial services or related environment.
  • Proven ability to supervise, coach, mentor and develop a diverse accounting team.
  • Proven ability to add value by analyzing and improving operations, systems, and policies.
  • Proficient with simply accounting system, spreadsheet skills and analytical tools.
  • Technical ability and willingness to learn new systems as required for the role.
  • Able to function independently while managing and developing strong working relationships across the organization with your personable communication style.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
