The Opportunity

The Métis Nation of Alberta is recruiting for a temporary full-time Summer Communications Photo/Video Assistant based out of the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 31, 2024. Reporting to the Creative Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Communications Department through photography and videography at MNA events, and post-processing of photos or videos. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and experience operating photography and videography equipment, and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively towards the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend MNA events to shoot photos/video.
  • Process raw image and video files and maintain organization of files.
  • Edit video products and photos.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite and other software to process and edit content.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about Indigenous issues, photography/videography, and communication practices. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:

  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media, photography, and videography.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications and Google Workspace.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Education or training in photography, videography, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in photography or videography. School of volunteer experience is valid experience.

Other Requirements

  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • A hybrid work schedule on an in-office rotation is required.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
