Senior Java script / Typescript Developer

Our client is a Toronto-based IT consulting boutique that strives for excellence in customer service and delivery in financial services and fintech industry.
Seeking exceptional software engineering candidates, someone who has successfully delivered large complex projects for Canadian or US banks.
They focus on technology advisory, cloud computing, integration solutions, and enterprise big data and analytics.
With a team of highly knowledgeable business and technical experts, we provide strategic, mission critical solutions to our clients.

Perm / FT role.
Salary: Market rate + benefits and performance bonus
Hybrid work environment - mix of home, office and client site
Company location: Downtown Toronto

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs using Node.js.
● Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure APIs meet UI and UX requirements.
● Ensure data security, protection, and integrity within applications and APIs.
● Leverage OpenAPI (formerly Swagger) for API documentation and design, promoting clear communication about API functionalities.
● Incorporate Agile methodologies in all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning to deployment, to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
● Participate in Agile events, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups, to ensure continuous improvement and team cohesion.
● Drive the adoption of CI/CD practices to streamline development and deployment processes.

REQUIREMENTS
● Expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js for backend API development.
● Strong experience with designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices.
● Knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger for effective API documentation.
● Competence in frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React) for API integration.
● Proficiency in development tools like Visual Studio Code (VSCode) and version control with Git.
● Experience with both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases.
● Familiarity with cloud services, preferably AWS, and cloud architecture principles.
● Proven track record of applying Agile methodologies and practices in software development projects.
● Expertise in Confluence and JIRA for documentation and sprint management.
● Experience with automated testing and unit tests to ensure application quality.
● Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices.
● Understanding of additional JavaScript/Typescript frameworks and libraries such as ORM, Schema Validation, Logging, etc.
● Nice to have - Background in financial services or asset management.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
● At least 7 years’ experience in backend software development, with a strong foundation in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
● Demonstrated ability to build high-quality, secure, and scalable backend systems.
● Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
● Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical ideas to non-technical team members. #J-18808-Ljbffr
