The Ukrainian Museum of Canada, in Saskatoon, SK, is a dynamic cultural heritage museum, archives, and community space operating in a period of creative regrowth. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented individual to join our team this summer as a Museum Educator, working under the direction of the Executive Director. This is an excellent learning opportunity for emerging museum professionals with an interest in Ukrainian cultural heritage.

Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team as a Museum Educator for the summer. Working closely with the Executive Director and our education team, you will play a key role in planning and delivering educational programs and front-of-house experiences that inspire and educate visitors of all ages.

Responsibilities:

  • Educational Program Planning: Collaborate with the education team to plan and develop engaging educational programs focusing on Ukrainian Canadian culture, history, and heritage.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development of educational materials, lesson plans, and activities tailored to various age groups and aligned with the museum’s mission.
  • Hands-On Workshops: Organize and facilitate hands-on workshops that allow participants to explore Ukrainian traditions, arts, and crafts, fostering a deeper understanding of Ukrainian culture.
  • Artifact and Exhibit Tours: Lead guided tours of museum exhibits, providing insights into the significance of artifacts and promoting an appreciation for Ukrainian history and culture.
  • Storytelling Sessions: Conduct storytelling sessions that bring Ukrainian culture to life through anecdotes and narratives, creating immersive and memorable learning experiences for participants.
  • Teachers’ Resources Development: Assist in creating resources for teachers, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards and educational objectives to support classroom learning.
  • Summer Children’s Camp Assistance: Support the programming and supervision of the one-week summer children’s camp, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience for participants.
  • Promotion and Outreach: Assist in promoting educational programs and the summer camp through various channels, engaging with the community to enhance participation and awareness.
  • Cultural Events Support: Provide support during special cultural events organized by the museum, contributing to educational initiatives and community engagement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for education and Ukrainian Canadian culture.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups.
  • Ability to work Sundays and flexible hours as required.
  • Previous experience in education, museum studies, or related fields is an asset.

Youth Eligibility:
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status.
• Between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.
• Have a valid SIN number that does not start with the number ‘9’. International youth are not eligible participants.
• Cannot be an immediate family member of the employer, officer, board member or director.

Hours: 35 hours per week, including Sundays and occasional evenings for special events.

Compensation: $18/hour
