The company’s state-of-the-art fleet consists of 15 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite. The System Design team works closely with System Modeling and System Engineering to design and develop the Lightspeed constellation end-to-end system, covering several key aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define Lightspeed system architecture, system requirements, and network element (including satellite) specifications, ensuring alignment with project goals and customer needs. Contribute to the design and development of key aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers in the System Design team.
Develop and maintain Lightspeed system architecture documentation, including subsystems definition, interfaces, and data flows, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the system.
Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.
Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as required to ensure project success.
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with software defined satellite communication payloads
Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards
Creative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail.
Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.
