DUTIES

Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position is committed to excellence in student support and care through the ininiwi kiskinwamakewin Centre. The incumbent will be the lead in coordinating, planning and developing student activities as well as promoting events for the Centre. The Centre Coordinator will also be responsible for recruitment and selection of presenters for workshop presentations, volunteers, hiring of guest speakers and facilitating workshops as requested by students. This position will require promotion of cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity while working with UCN programs and other departments and will serve a liaison for UCN and students on issues of importance to Indigenous Culture.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in social work or counselling; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

· Excellent leadership skills

· Ability to understand and deal with issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in northern Manitoba

· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

· Proficient computer skills with familiarity in MS Office suite and Office 365 programs

· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

· Excellent problem-solving skills

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Effective time management skills and organizational skills

· Commitment to life-long learning

ASSETS

· Ability to speak an Indigenous language

· Experience working in a post-secondary institution environment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

· Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada

· Must be able to work flexible hours; as some evenings and/or weekends may be required
