dependbuild is a startup based in Atlantic Canada who was 1 of 3 Atlantic Canada startups to win the 2022 Halifax innovation hub Volta’s pitch competition. Dependbuild uses machine learning and large data sets to offer a SaaS-based solution to understanding risks in infrastructure projects. In 2023 dependbuild has been awarded a Top 50 Most Transformative Project by Smart Cities Connect.

We are a cloud-based risk management software solution for municipalities and infrastructure developers to identify, assess and track risks on their construction projects. Ultimately, minimizing deficiencies and using risk management to build better infrastructure projects by providing users real time project reporting.

In the next 30 years, almost all infrastructure will have to be refurbished or rebuilt, but civil servants don’t have the ability to assess the projects and the risk they entail. dependbuild is a Software-as-a-Service product that analyzes data for infrastructure projects. Its target markets are municipalities, provincial or state governments, construction companies, and data users.

dependbuild has created a standardized approach that will help level the playing field between municipalities, infrastructure providers, and other stakeholders. dependbuild works with asset management and other data as a tool to build knowledge, align strategic planning and risk management at the municipal level with the value that stakeholders and citizens place on the functionality and reliability of their public infrastructure.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an ambitious and kin React Developer to join our fast-growing startup and help develop the front end of our proprietary risk-management platform. This opportunity is a full time, fully remote contract position with anticipated start of February 1, 2023*

Our Stack:

  • React App along with Chakra UI with no exclusive state management.
  • Our back end is a microservices based API system built on the AWS Serverless Cloud and follows industry standard RESTful API design principles. As major version updates are introduced, we update our services regularly.
  • The app is built to rely on AWS Amplify to fast track several front-end developments.
  • We make heavy use of serverless cloud architecture. We utilize AWS App Services, AWS Lambda Functions and a whole load of AWS services.
  • Our data store is AWS Aurora database – MySQL.
  • We are not married to any technology – we develop based on the right tools for the given job, and our deep technical expertise.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop our react application(s) based on project requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to determine optimal solutions for complex problems.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects.
  • Create and maintain documentation for software applications.
  • Mentor junior developers and share knowledge with the team
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.
  • Complete Stories and tasks with minimal assistance and supervision
  • Assist in DNA (Design and Architecture) phase of story refinement.

What You’ll Bring

  • A self-start attitude
  • 2+ years of experience working with React
  • Experience with large enterprise applications and distributed systems
  • Excellent problem solving and optimization skills
  • Experience working on a product team
  • Knowledge of front-end patterns (container/presenter, etc.)
  • Strong experience in testing
  • Ability to take charge in terms of providing solutions to problems and making recommendations
  • Any experience developing with the AWS ecosystem is a bonus
  • Experience with UI/UX is preferred
